On my drive from oregon to socal yesterday my rear diff started making noises when I came to a complete stop and also when moving forward, turning reverse. After talking to a mechanic we had concluded that the auburn in the back may need to be replaced or removed.

Can anyone tell me how difficult and also what is required to remove the LSD and put it back to factory?

I am very new to land cruisers/4x4s and dont know much about what I am doing. If anyone in the LA area may be willing to assist me in remedying this problem I would be more then happy to compensate them with their choice of beverage or dinner.

Thanks for any help.

The whole LSD must be removed from the ring gear itself and a factory differental put in. In your case it sound like a qualified tech should do the job. However there may be some folks here that have a used differential they will sell or give you to save on buying a new one. If I had one I would anyway.

If you go pick up a used 3rd member from SOR or Man-a-Fre I will help you put it in. Try to get it today because it is a 3 day weekend. I can do it for you on Sunday or Monday. PM me and we could set up the day and time.
