I recently got some Depo headlights for my LX450. I also got a Toyota grill since it has to be changed when installing these lights on an LX.

Therefore I am wanting to see if anyone has any tips on how to mount the Lexus badge on the Toyota grill? I found the following picture showing that someone has done it before but I could not find any additional information as to how it was done.

yes my depo lights arrived as well as the toyota grill. Have pulled the lx one off yet to see if its a direct swap

Yeah the grill is a direct swap, but the badges are not. I think I'm going to have to trim the Toyota emblem backing and then epoxy or plastic weld studs to the grill so I can screw in the Lexus emblem.

It looks like the LX badge has a black backplate in the photo at the top. Maybe cut a backplate out that covers the sombrero background and bolts to it, while also being able to screw the LX badge onto that. It may require some clearance work on the sombrero to clear the screw heads that hold the lx badge on. That's probably the easiest and quickest way.

Honestly that's my favorite grill, but I'm too OCD to not have all the badges match. Haha

man you would hate my LX then. no cladding thanks to cruiser doors. old toyota grill, 40th seats, 3FE back hatch with no wing or key hole... its such a collection of parts but it runs :-p

You're right, I hadn't noticed that there is a black backplate on the grill in the picture. That gives me another idea...I may try to 3D print a backing plate that the Lexus emblem will attach to, which I will then pressure fit and screw into the clearanced Toyota grill.

Haha, hey as long as you're happy who cares?

Are there not lights at the mall or Starbucks? Why do you even need the Depos? :grinpimp:

Go easy on me, I'm still a newbie. Haha

My stock headlights we're toast. Horrible output and terrible in the rain/night. I'm sure the 21 year old reflectors had reached the end of their life.

Mine's always been a toyota in the front and a lexus in the back. Kinda like the opposite of a mullet.

I was thinking it would be kinda cool to get "LEXUS" made in the familiar toyota font (ala FJ60) for the front grille :hillbilly:

That is my LX450 in the OP... I used a thin piece of sheetmetal cut in the shape of the Lexus 'L' and sandwiched it between the grille and the badge. Here is the thread with photos: Lexus "L" on Toyota Grille

Let me know if you have any questions.

Agreed, I think that would look awesome!

You don't know how many keyword and image searches I did on that original picture and I never came across your thread. Ha

Regardless thanks for the info, I think I'm going to copy you. I would much rather not cut up a perfectly good grill. Great job by the way!

I just cut the pins off my toyota badge and glued them in the locations that matched the lexus badge for my rear hatch. You could probably do the same on the front. I also put plenty of gray 3m tape on there. Worked fine.
