I've been trying to find a good deal on quality 37" MTs for 17" Sequoia/Tundra wheels for my 80 Series. I was aiming to spend around $300 a tire, but am struggling to find a really good deal.

I've done a lot of research to narrow my options. Overall I'm looking for a solid all around MT for both on and offroad with decent longevity (on-road, rock, and mud performance are priority over sand or snow/ice).

I'd also like to get as close to a true 37" as possible (Ex. GY MT/R is closest to a true 37", BFG KM2 is more like a 36")

Here is what I have been able to find online with no tax and mostly free shipping:

- Goodyear MT/Rs: $410 + $75 off 4 (rebate)
- BFG MT KM2: $400 each + $50 off 4
- Maxxis Trepador: $390 + $100 off 4
- Mickey Thompson MTZ: $410 + $100 off 4 (rebate)
- Toyo Open Country MT: $370
- Nitti Mud Grapler: $410 (not my favorite design)

Has anyone seen any better offers at various times of the year that I should be looking for that could get me closer to $300 per tire? Like a 25% off, Buy 3 get 1, or other solid offer?

I'm not considering the Irok (not great on-road), Cooper STT (tread chunks in rocks), SSR (longevity), or a few others for various reasons.

tires, wheels items in Discount Tire Direct store on eBay!

Look for tires that are $400 or more each. Purchase 1 tire at a time and apply the $100 off $400 to each tire.

I just bought 4 315/75/16 Cooper STT Pro's with this deal. I called the local Discount Tire and got them to price match with their ebay store. Normally $1473 for tires, balance, stems, mounting, tax, and certificates. I paid $1195.

I checked out the link and the only ones with $100 off $400 offers on my list are the MTZ and Nitto Trail Grapler. I wish I could find a similar deal on the MT/R, KM2, or Trepador. Any other ideas?

Most of the MT deals were on Cooper STT, Procomp MT2, and Hankook Dynapro MT.

If you want a mud tire 37X12.50R17LT in the low $300 range, look at Multi Mile MTX also sold as Big O Mud Claw (not sure mud claw is offered that big at Big O). 37x12 50R17 Mud Claw MT 8 Ply Lt Tire 37 1250 17 | eBay $309.99 on ebay.

Great tire. Its made by Cooper, marketed by Wild Country or other off brand tire companys.
I am on my 2nd set, 1st set got 65,000 +/- mi (have to look up how may in my log book) with plenty of tread to spare but with winter coming and my 96 mi a day drive, I wanted lots of tread so I replaced them.

I have run Wild Country mud tire all my life except once, tried ProComp Xterrains, they sucked and one was defective from new.
As long as you rotate and balance regularly or use Counteract tire balancing beads, you should get lots of miles out of them. I have never owned a 37" tire so I have no idea on tire life for that big of tire. With 235x75x15 285x75x16 31x10.50x15 and 30x9.50x15 they all had long tire life usually in the 60,000 mi range but I drive a lot so your mileage will vary with driving conditions. I also run a higher tire pressure to prolong tire life and for hypermiling :hillbilly:

Cooper STT Pro. Decent price, excellent tire!

Cooper Discoverer STT PRO Review - Jeep Cherokee Forum

Just one of the reviews I read, prior to picking them up. Sorry for the Jeep link, but........tires.

I actually looked at the STT's quote a bit, but performance in the rocks is top for me and the pictures of chunks being take off turned me off them. They seem to be a great tire for everything else, especially given the price, but maybe the latest enhancements have fixed the chunking issue?

I actually read the same for the MTZ's as well (history of chunking) except they also wear fast and are not great in the mud.

From what I have read, the MT/R might be the best all around option but I cannot find any good deals on them.

If the STT's no longer have chunking problems, they would be a serious contender especially given the price

I can't seem to find pictures of the chunking on the STT Pro. Maybe my Google skills are sub par?

Plenty of reviews on the old STT, with chunking and weak sidewalls, but that's a different tire.

Agreed, most seemed to refer to the older STT.

From what I can find the new STT Pro seems great. The only negative vs a MT/R for example is supposedly they are really loud on the road. How has the road noise from the STT's been for you?

I also read the STTs run small like a BFG (37's measure 36" mounted vs a MT/R that measures 37").

I did find one person say the new STTs started chunking after 25k miles, but maybe that happens to most MTs...

37x12.50r17 mastercraft courser mxt Does not look bad IMO. Can be found at $300 a copy. Don't know if they are any good or not

My STT Pro's measure at 36.75". The road noise is just a low hum. Not many miles on them yet, so that may change. I plan to keep them rotated frequently.

My buddy has been running a set since last summer. They do well in the rocks, and are holding up. His are on an SAS Tacoma.

Scour Craigslist, awaiting the ad for barely used 37" KM2s listed by the accountant or attorney that's 'going bigger' on his 4 door Heep, to aid in finding it when parked amongst the 300 littering the parking lot of a brand name gym.

Thats f'In funny!

Just an FYI, for 37s on my K5, I went with Toyo R/T. I've run Goodyear MTR (both generations, in 315) for a long time, and tire availability (Mesa, AZ) was always a problem when I cut one down. When I inquired about 37s, the guy at 4Wheelparts just smiled... Toyo was next on my list, but the 37 M/T is too wide; then I found out they make the R/T in 37x12.5/17. Paid $330 per tire; 36.5" tall @ 50 psi on a 17x9 rim, 35.75" with the weight of the truck (front, dual batteries, tube bumper/winch). They've done well in dry desert trails and rocks this winter; still haven't gotten them wet, though, neither on the road nor on the trail, so I can't say how they'd do. Then again, the GY MTR never has shown good grip in wet conditions either, so I'm not too worried.

Don't know about longevity, but that's not an issue given the use of this truck - I've always cut tires in the rocks long before they would wear out. In terms of price, it was among the best I could find, and I've always had good luck with the warranty at 4WP.

I echo the Craigslist scouring. I bought 5-37" KM2's 2 months ago with about 5/8 tread for $300. Just be patient and ready to pounce.

This is great feedback and would mitigate most of my concerns. STT Pro's might be the leading contender in the $300/tire field.

I was also worried about the Toyo width, but then saw the 12.5 option. The tire ride height is a little worrisome at below 36" though.

I'm searching Craigslist daily. The SST's may be a better option than used KM2s or MT/Rs.

I've only got 200 miles on the STT PRO's but so far I LOVE them. They are quiet and absorb road imperfections well. I'm also noticing that my fuel economy has actually gone up, albeit ever so slightly, compared the previous Hankooks. The weight of the 295 Hankooks and 315 Coopers are almost identical at 68lbs. The STT had a huge following but had some chunking issues. The STT PRO is supposed to improve on all of the STT qualities and address the chunking.

A bunch of us have been running the Cooper STZt for a long time. The new STT Pro is the same basic carcass with an updated tread pattern. We beat the snot out of them in the rocks, usually at around 15 psi, and we have seen very few problems, including chunking. Some if us have worn out the first set, or two , and replaced them with more if the same. My first set of. 37s were Nitto zzz Trails and I got 55000 miles out of them. I really liked them. When it was time for new tires, the STTs were way cheaper, and after watching my friends good results with them I switched oved. I really do like the Coopers. Damn solid tire! 2 weeks ago I hit a ditch hard enough to bend my front axle about 3 degrees on the right front! Tires survived fine. John

I don't think you'll find many '37s' that will be anywhere near 37" ride height with the weight of the truck on it, if any. Granted, GY MTR Kevlars come in taller than many others (including the first-gen GY MTRs), but if you want true 37" ride height, you'll have to look at 38s or 385s etc.

Just for reference, the worn BFG AT in 37/12.5x17 that were on the truck (before the Toyo R/T) came in at 34" with the weight of the truck.
