I'm on my 3rd FJ40 now. A 350 and 454 went into the first 2 and now run a 383. Have never had any running gear problems that were cruiser related. In fact, the only tranny failures I've had were TH350's. With proper care and lubrication the cruiser running gear (with the exception of birfs if you do hard wheeling) should last a long time. On the other hand, if all you do is wind to 4000 and drop the clutch at each light trouble will find you ... but that would be just at true for an F or 2F.
