I'm on my 3rd FJ40 now. A 350 and 454 went into the first 2 and now run a 383. Have never had any running gear problems that were cruiser related. In fact, the only tranny failures I've had were TH350's. With proper care and lubrication the cruiser running gear (with the exception of birfs if you do hard wheeling) should last a long time. On the other hand, if all you do is wind to 4000 and drop the clutch at each light trouble will find you ... but that would be just at true for an F or 2F.

TJDIV still hit the most important point. There are separate laws of gravity when it comes to money and cruisers.

hey rice, what kind of tires are you running?
i want to run some big fat floater types.... just want to be able to keep em throwing 60 foot'rs in the mud. this is why i figure the storker would be a good way to go.... need the torque.

I'm the wrong person to ask about tires. My current rig is a street queen. Since sandblasting out the frame when I had the body off (and being reminded of all the places mud can go) I haven't been too keen on sinking her in a swamp. Because I was looking for good street behavior and rain/snow traction I went with Bridgestone AT Revo. In the old days of 4X4 racing I used paddle tires for dirt drags and an old tire called a Rhino for motorcross, but that was a while ago and tire technology has jumped up a few steps. Some of the other folks here will have much better info than I could offer.

Did this ever happen?

I'll chime in a little late however.

My advise: Look around and ask your local parts supplier's who makes the best engines. They know in your area. Don't go strictly on your friends.

Here's my story...my fastback's 1st engine was built by a recommendation from a buddy. 73 miles later, I pulled the valve covers to place some AFR185's on it. I found that the builder never replaced the factory push rods for harden ones causing major engine failure and I had to build a new one. 6k loss and I was fried.

This time I chose to go with www.adperformance.com for my scat 347stroker kit. Email him at Brian@adperformance.com. He is one of the best for parts and especially service. He told me exactly who to go with locally and helped me get my engine done - selective builder. In the end, my engine screams for less money than what I put into the first engine.
