How to bench test an 8274 ?

Hi all

Just gave an 8274 a good make over and added a new solenoid and bow motor 2.
I have fitted the motor and wired up the solenoid to the motor, is there an easy way to bench test it backwards and forwards with out having to wire it to the truck ?

Cheers well tested it goes both ways but the cog in between the 2 brake platee does not spin when I go either way and there seems to be a bit if play in that cog, its the one that the brake lever hits as it goes round but mine does not go round ? Took it a part and checked it all and seems all OK but can't use at moment and there is no brake any ideas what could be wrong ?
