I was allotted a vehicle over a month ago that the dealer wrecked in the parking lot. My second allotment is "held up in port" with no delivery date. Dealer called today and they have repaired my original GX. here are the pics:

The accident was not reported since the dealership repaired outside of insurance. Assuming all is fine with the repairs, what should I ask for as a discount? Out the door pricing was originally $73,800 before tax/license. The original has no sunroof, which is good because of the recent issues. Any help with where I should start negotiating is appreciated. should I ask for a warranty in lieu of cash discount? I was going to ask for that anyway with the engine issues.

I’d pass on it. Don’t buy it. The reason the current GXs are hung up in delivery is because there’s a problem with them (somewhere). That crashed vehicle got delivered before Toyota became aware of the manufacturing fault (somewhere) so that vehicle likely has the same problem- whatever it is.

While it hasn't been openly published, it's believed that the QC hold is due to a possible kink in one of the sunroof drain lines. Thats why we're still seeing deliveries on the LC250 1958 trim, Panoroof GX, and non-sunroof GX trims.

The damage, while disheartening for a vehicle you ordered, appears to be mostly cosmetic and easily repaired. See if they will cut a deal for maybe 500-1000 under invoice or something along the lines of a reduced price extended warranty. I doubt they will discount much knowing the next buyer that walks in the door may just buy it as is or with some other minor financial consideration. Which would be a guy like me that plans on modifying the vehicle at some point. Which will probably involve cutting some of that freshly repaired plastic to make room for an ARB front bumper. I will say, my wife’s Avalon had to have some parking lot damage to the LF fender repaired. We had it done by the local Toyota Dealer. The paint match is spot on and you cannot tell it was ever damaged. I suspect the Lexus Dealer has performed the same quality level of repair to the GX.

Agreed. Looks like just plastic pieces that can be replaced without drama. If you can confirm that was the extent of damage then probably not too much. Maybe whatever it is also ask for slightly larger warranty to 'put your mind at ease'.

Too bad there are no bumpers out for these yet. Could have been a free mod.

Dealer’s insurance will cover repairs and any loss of vehicle value. I bet you could buy it for $3,000 under invoice and never look back.

Just got done at the dealership. I promised I wouldn’t tell anybody how much they saved me. The repair was about $10,000 but I may be the only person in the United States that paid less than MSRP for a new GX.

By the way, the repairs were done very well and the repairs are warranties by the body shop for life. I will be driving off in about an hour from the dealership once my funds clear thanks for your help.

I'd be sure to factor in any depreciation due to the accident now being associated with the CarFax report...

My guess is it probably won't show up on the Carfax or similar reporting service because I doubt the dealer self-reported the accident. Dealer probably just took it to its own body shop and had the repair done.

I think the fact that they're still shopping it around suggests they don't have a long list of waiting buyers. Car prices are falling generally. I think you have more leverage than you had a few months ago. I'd go at least for invoice price as a target. Just my .02. Invoice on an OT is about $63k plus options. Depending on options - I'd offer around $65k and see.

Are you that desperate?
No but I sold my LX 6 weeks back and my DD is a 97 LC. It’s hot as hell. The repairs were well done and I have a new GX. I’m happy with it and glad to be done with it.

I would also make sure their repair work does not show up on the dealer service records. Lots of savvy buyers check those now and even if the accident isn’t on Carfax or Autocheck, a service record repair would ding value.

Good choice to buy it. Enjoy the ride.
