I wanted to share something I’ve leaned in using my OT. If you use the paddle shifters the shift is ultimately temporary and reverts back to normal automatic ‘D’ operations. I did find the paddle shifter will hold the gear in a long & steep down hill grade to keep the engine braking going until the descent ends.
On trails I found I was using the paddle shifters to call for more engine braking and then it would reset and I’d have to do it over again. On trails is where I wanted different behavior from the GX.
Turns out the answer is there on the center console. Putting the gear shift lever in manual mode and bumping it down holds the gear and it appears to hold it as long as the conditions are appropriate mix of engine/truck speed. I need to experiment with this more, but running trails yesterday it seemed to be a much more persistent gear selection than the paddles.
