Hmm, nothing down low - not sure about that, But I know what you mean as it would be hard to boost from 1600-5000 rpm. He gets 60l/100kmsHeavily modded pump - no injector mods. Said the injector mods he tried made no real power gains. Been driving it for 3 years and drives it often.
The stark realities of turbocharging, a single wastegated turbo only has a certain operating range and you have to trade off low vs high rpm. Since he's pushing high rpm he's had to pick a big turbo with nothing down low.
he's got over 30,000 kms on it since I last talked to him lasty year - works like a charm, here it is in action:

Yes the guy on outerlimits is running a 1HZ. I don't understand it either.
So you're running bigger pump elements and a boost controller? Essentially a complete custom built pump or was it from a 1HD-FT?
I've talked to a bunch of comp guys with 1hz's, they run the stock pump but modify it and the injectors, I'll see if I can find the info.
It does appear to be a screamer though. Big turbo (I believe GT2876R) with nothing down low, he revs it hard to get that spinning.

Agreed. He should put another turbo inline on that thing - now that would be nice.
EDIT, while I agree, I also see that his engine goes from idle to mach 1 in short order - so although he has lower bottom end he is rarely in the bottom end if you know what I mean.
first off, yes, he will be sacrificing bottom end turbo action but then a 1HZ has very good bottom end grunt.
secondly there is a trade off to huge horsepower and a heavy foot.
but he does have good taste as well...
from his album:
your nutz but that is okay, it is the nutz that make the world go round.
i have to say, i love the intercooler install. so clean, so simple.
NICE.
ditto on the intercooler/intake manifold set-up. Do you have picts of the manifold before you installed it? Or even on the truck?
How about reliability..?? I am so interested in knowing how long the engine can last.. he is pushing that HZ to ultimate level that no one has done it and I'm so interested in what has been broken and what has been improved.. Anyway its all about what you want your truck to do.. but I dont see how u need such high rpm risking all the other stuff in your truck that you built..
No doubt that cruiser is nicely done!!![]()

I'm helping a friend doing one.. I'll take the picture for his.. its quite similar except for the 2.5" inlet flange on the manifold.. Will post some pics..

It really does makes me goose bump hearing that engine revving that hard and having so much boost at 5-6krpm.. its insane.. I wonder how many times he kill the pistons and rods.. for such hardcore your engine will be no way stock internals.. diesel is all about torque.. its different and putting those kind of power stresses the engine so much.. I've seen people achieve this kind of power but they dont use diesel anymore.. They swap in a 2JZ-GTE with GT35R.. They can still snorkeling and they did a lot to the wirings..
Choosing the right turbo based on the compressor map in a desired boost level to achieve certain horsepower and torque is what you want to do.. If bringing the rpm to the high level u sacrifice the low end of the diesel torque in which u need for towing.. So you see if you can get all the torque u want as well as being hardcore there is no need to bump that rpm.. its just the matter of finding the sweet spot in your engine with the things you throw onto it.. Of course making sure what you put at it much suits your application..

Actually I´m interested in seeing pics of each element of the setup as adding the intercooler is next on my list.![]()
Just beaking front drivetrain parts last time I talked to him, engine has factory parts with some HPC coatings from what he told me.
