How many 3FE'rs with Rough Idle? What are the fixes?

Figured I'd throw it up there since I read that you used seafoam, but wasn't too sure how. It helped with mine. Good luck with your 3FE and let us all know how it comes about.

With my 89 3FE I have also been dealing with this problem for a long time now and the amount of money that I have spent is ridiculous. In Park it idles roughly at 650RPM, stumbles for its first block driven, once warmed up and I stop at a light it dips down constantly but doesnt stall. It has 171K (perfect compression still almost as good as new) on it and the motor has never been opened. I have given it a full tune-up with all Toyota parts, replaced the MAF, fuel pressure regulator, cold start injector, checked EGR, have found no vacuum leaks, repalced the coil, fuel injector cleaners, replaced the very expensive 3 out of the 4 (one is only for the temp. gauge) sensors around the thermostat housing. One was the temp sensor for the computer, the Thermotime switch, and the third which I have forgotten what it is for. The IAC valve clicks three times when shut off so I assume that is ok. I guess that the o2 sensors are next but since everything is original and really rusted on the front part of the exhaust, the downpipes, Y Pipe, both catalytic converters must be done as well. So for now I will live with this annoying and embarrassing problem. Good luck and I look forward to hearing how it turns out with yours.

EFI relay or the associated wiring is what I believe to be my issue, and probably most issues similar to this. I plan to do a write up when I dive in and start replacing s***.

I was working on a 92 with a rough idle and I ended up locating a vacuum leak in the intake manifold gasket on the bottom of #3 IIRC. Replaced the gasket set and now it runs like a champ and has for the last 6 months or so. I found it by spraying around the hoses and gaskets with carb cleaner.

mostly fixed

In August I took mine in to the Toy Shop here in SF for the rough idle that had gotten much worse in the past few months.
They checked the EFI system and Sensors, Oxygen sensors indicated excessive lean condition. Air leak was detected from the Air Intake Hose. They found it was cracked on the bottom. This could have been a long process that just got worse over time. Now it idles smoother than it ever has in years. There is still a faint stumble but it's nothing you notice unless you look for it.
