Lift comparison between an OME BP-51 suspension set as low as you can go (1.5”) in front and no-lift in the rear (2721 rear springs) on Terragrappler G2 285/65/18 (32.59" diameter)
vs.
Stock suspension with a 1/4" OEM spacer on a 2020 Heritage with Michelin LTX AT2 275/65/18 (32" diameter)

About 38” from the ground to the bottom of the wheel well.

Made possible by @VIZTU1. Also, thanks to @dnh1

PLEASE do the same with King 2.5s on 600# springs!!

Great timing and super video.

I just got the BP-51 installed on my 2016. Asked for a max of 1.5” of lift as I still live in a city And need to get in/out of garages, came back with 4-5” of lift! Looks like a monster truck and the 275/70r18 look puny.

I know the front preload needs to be dialed down as they left it at 20mm, but can anyone tell me how the rears are adjusted down?

No mods other than one drawer.

@Butzi you can't adjust rear springs, can only put more weight on them :) .. might need to get a "lighter" spring
I think I was given the 2722 and not the 2721 springs I had requested. It should not be this jacked; looks like it’s on stilts. This video just confirmed my suspicions.

Nice info Eric. FWIW, measure from center of wheel to fender. That eliminates the tire out of the equation. That is how we measure all the trucks we do.

You wouldn’t happen to to know what stock measurement is off hand?

Thanks Christo, will do.

@Eric Sarjeant ,

Lift height aside, can you provide any feedback on ride quality between the two setups? I'm particularly interested in how the stock suspension with oem spacer handles compared to an aftermarket offering. Of course, handling is hard to quantify, but I'd be interested in your perspective.

As I add weight to my rig (skids, sliders, drawers, batteries, etc.) I've noticed a degradation in handling. The stock suspension feels overloaded. I'm trying to figure out the right path forward. I'm afraid it might entail injection if cubic dollars...

The OE spacers won't change the ride. Compared to a BP-51; that is harder to answer because you have adjustable rebound/compression settings based on your load and desired feel. If you dial them in based on the roads you drive on most, the BP's will be better. Generally speaking, highway to highway comparison I would say the OE suspension is better from my personal experience with both. However, once you drive off-road or and/on corrugated roads or even roads with pot-holes, you will grow fond of the BP-51 suspension.

If you aren't ready to take the leap into the suspension yet, you could swap the rear OE springs to the OME 2721's which will add about 1" lift. The OME chart will tell you 0" but that's not correct. The 2721 springs will get you about +250lbs over OE. Feel free to call any time.

Eric, so here’s my question - is the stock suspension on an HE different than the stock suspension on a regular Land Cruiser?

This HE sits a tad higher than my stock 200s (even without the OEM front spacer), AND I count 5 links on the rear coil vs. The 4 links that are on my 200s. I can measure a slight height difference between the HE Land Cruiser and the standard one at my local dealership, too. I think Toyota tweaked the suspension lightly on the HE but is not drawing attention to it.

Your thoughts?

Tim

Considering the number of trucks he’s built, Eric might have some take-off springs from a HE to do a side-by-side comparison.

I always thought they were exactly the same, but @bloc had a good idea, just measure both...

The HE spring unsprung is 18 7/8" ... The Base is 18" unsprung.

HE SPRINGS - 48231-60E50 RH 48231-60E40 LH
Base 48231-60A20 RH 48231-60B11 LH

I called Toyota but they weren't able to give me any differences other than packaging differences

Excellent, thanks for the detail. Makes sense as I compare my stock LC to my new HE

Can you count the number of winds? and if possible with a caliper the wire diameter?

Looking at 200 series models sold overseas (from USA), the spring difference seems to be that the HE spring listed above (checked only for the RH side, assumed same for LH) is for models with the additional fuel tank.

@Eric Sarjeant - thanks for the part numbers, that made it a lot easier to research why my 2020 sits so much higher than the 2017 I traded in.

Can HE springs be swapped with base springs for a minor stock lift (assume 1/2”-3/4”)? This plus OEM front spacers would be a just about perfect...for me!

Plus the HE doesn't have all of the mass of rear seats...
