How I installed a Scion 1808 HU into my LX 450 (1 Viewer)

So has there been a tech write up yet for this and the LX450. I don't know much about all of these and after reading all of this I'm a bit confused. I guess if I had it all in front of me and was going for it I would eventually get it but I would want to make sure I had everything at once as I hate making trips into town.

Need:

#1: Scion radio
#2: Toyota 1987 and up Stereo Kit from Best Buy or Fry's
#3: All of the Ipod wiring kit that is supposed to come with the radio
#4: The #8 pin mod will allow me to use my stock amp and Center Console Woofer? I'm not really planning on replacing the whole console yet.

So with all of this I should have

#1: Stock radio
#2: Satellite radio
#3: CD that plays MP3
#4: IPOD connection

Not to hijack this thread but....
I have a Scion T1804 - is this HU more plug and play than an 1808? or do I still need to pull the amp behind the tweeter and get a kit from Best buy?
I didn't buy an 1808 since we dont have satellite radio or MP3 players - It is a 1997 450 for gosh sake. :)
Thanks in advance!

The install documented here is for an LX450:confused:

Sorry, don't know the answer to that. You might search a Scion site

Ohh I know it is for an LX450...that wording didn't come out right. I was just wondering if a single source tech write up came out so I wasn't confusing any information in the posts throughout the install and trail and errors of his install. Looks like I'm going to dive in after Christmas. I wish lexus would have just done exactly the same as Toyota with the Stereo. Not like it sounds any better anyway. Maybe it did 13 years ago I don't know.

For those older type scion decks the plugs for the power and speakers are the same as the 1808. The 1808 has two additional plugs - one for the sat. radio and the other for the ipod and steering wheel mounted controls. The plug-and-play factor does not change from one unit to the other.

Lexus used a separate amp for the stereo. The lx has a separate 6 disc changer controlled by the head unit but its output was directed to the amp and not to the head unit. I suppose that they could have just as easily kept the amp in the head unit. It is what it is.

So - today I removed the stock HU and the rear plug inlets differ A LOT from the 1808 or the 1804 that I have. Apparently a wiring harness is necessary - unfortunately for me I live in a small town w/o a Best Buy or other harness outlet.
The primary reason I was going to change out the HU was that the bulbs were burned out on the controls. I took the face plate off the Lexus HU and will solder in a new bulb from Radio Shack tomorrow so I don't think I am going to install the Scion HU at this time.
BTW - the controls for the temp control panel need new bulbs too, I plan on taking care of that also while this dash is apart.
Thanks for all the great instructions though, this may be a future project.

Anyone want to sell their stock LX-450 head unit after the Sion install? Mine works fine for what I listen to, but the back lights are starting to fail. Great thread.

T1804 question

Searched and found this old thread had the most replys for Scion T1800' s.
