great write-up. I just ordered one of those spotlight things. cant wait for it to come in,

AHA! So the connectors to the old radio are not used at all anymore? I think thats where I was getting hung up.

Exactly, Just clip the pin 8 wire mentioned above to wire in the power antenna

This mod gains MP3 capabilities and what else? Any auxillary input or anything?

Have you been reading? Its been mentioned several times about hooking in an IPOD. The kit I bought that plugs into the satellite input does and Ipod, Aux Input and you can hook in an HD Radio reciever.

No, hard to read it all right now, (working the projection screens at church service). I'll look into it a little deeper after the sermon concludes.:D

No problem, nice to see you find Mud to be part of your spiritual enlightenment:D

I promised a picture. Still want to go in and clean up the rough edges on the Bezel. Funny how they are more apparent in the photo than just with my eyes. Thinking there has to be some type of plyable trim I could put in here.

This is a nice unit with 6 CD MP# internal deck and I have my Ipod in the glove box. It also has some cool light colors that you can change the display. It's an 1805

Next step is to figure out what to do with the sub woofer hole. Noticed others have gone to a landcruiser console. Wondering if anyone has taken the woofer and screen out and done something with it. Anyone seen a picture of what this cavity looks like?

Ack! Sorry guys, I have been pre-occupied with house renovations and have not been keeping up with ih8mud at all.

NLXTACY, to re-iterate, you do not use the old amp, you will use the plugs that plug in the speakers from the old amp. Its the speaker wire harness you must extend to reach the scion.

On the back of the scion hu there are plugs for the speed variable volume and the steering wheel controls, and the stereo jack adapter. In your picture of the back of the hu this would be the bigger of the two plugs. The other plug is used for the satelite radio.

The first two ewd dwgs show the scion set up. The 1808 is from a 2007. These 2 dwgs are for a 2006. There are only small differences that dont mean anyhting to your install.

The third dwg is the first ewd dwg for the 97 lx 450 radio.

The first ewd dwg is the the second dwg for the 97 lx450 radio.

The second dwg is for the illumination of the 97 lx 450. This shows the wire you have to cut into to get the scion radio to light up.

Incidentally, the scion radio is always lit up.

Romer,

If you use a little torch to heat buff alot of the scuffs - the heat turns the grey back to black

After driving at night I see I needed to hook up two more wires. In the LX450 WDS they are not shown on the Radio diagram but another diagram. I need to hook up J1 pin 2 Ilum + and J1 pin 9 Ilum- to the wires highlighted below. This would be two more wires spliced from where I took the power antenna wire. I will have to tackle this later on.

I see I missed the illum+ in the first post and the fact Illum- is not hooked up in his setup (just guessing) is probably why these are always on. I'll know for sure when I do this

Just wanted to be complete for anyone else who does this. My setup works great except for the night time illumination

I had both illums connected. I dont recall which was which, but one provides signal for constant lighting and the other dims at night.

I have a question... as I am doing this mod as we speak.... I pulled the panel off next to the glovebox. And took the speaker out... this took me less then a minute... Is that the amp directly behind the tweeter? It has two connectors on it....... or is it the black box right behind the glove boot with the one big assed connector on it that looks rather important?

Sorry not meaning to hi jack... just need it explained to me like a five year old.

Thanks Bro,

That was easy as pie. The whole thing only took a few short minutes and was over painlessly. And might I say it made a huge difference in the sound. I have everything hooked up and even installed brand new high grade coax for the antenna that I also repaired.

Now I just need to get a set of factory radio brackets and I am done.

Anyone?

Thanks, I got that you only hooked up one from your first post, but I waqs mistaken.

I really appreciate all the leg work you did in figuring out to tie in at the amp. Makes this very simple once you have the mating connectors and harness.

It sounded so great today on the highway. Now just have to tear it all down again to splice two wires into the back of the Radio for the illumination. Thanks again.

The scion is always lit because it uses LEDs for illumination (pin 10 on the S15). The dimmer does not work on the radio, but the light is subtle at night and dimming is not required in my opinion.

I wired it up the ilumination wires like I showed above and mine works with the lights and the dimmer.

Maybe the difference is in our SCION models or you got a wrong wire on the - side.

In any case having them always on would be better then never being on.

And then, assuming I can actually get this figured out....

What are these two ports for? I am assuming one is Sat Radio but what is the other?

The right question mark is for the AUX port.

Another thing has anyone changed the "SCION" screen on the display at power up?

I have a T1806 and I changed mine to "HELLO I"M DUSTY"

The kids love it.

Hey I got a question about this scion radio. I really dont know anything about scions. This radio I found for sale looks nice. Will it fit my land cruiser? Anyone know if it has aux in's?

Ok I FINALLY got this thing installed and working.

Got a radio harness from a parted out 80. Bought a radio wiring kit for a Toyota from Fry's. Cut everything off I didn't need, spliced the wires together and made an extended connector. needs to be at least 16" to work. The ONLY plug that was needed was the plug from the LX amp to the radio. Thats it. It worked fine after that. I didn't snip anything extra and didn't plug in anything else for it to work. For the ipod I threw in Karl's set up that I got from him and it works perfectly. Now I have two unused connectors floating in back of the radio and two connectors floating around where the amp used to be.

By only question now, before I hunt through search, is there anyway to change the background color on the 1808 unit? I;ve read you can do it to others just not this specific one.

T1808 - a soldering iron and a bunch of 0603 LEDs - on my list for both my T1807 in the Supra and the FJ Cruiser radio in the FZJ.
