How frequent should I rotate tires?

I have a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain KO that's been on my truck for a few years now, I'm wondering if they should be rotated each time I change oil (5000 miles) like the standard or can they go longer between rotations? The thing is, these tires are pretty beefy and knobby and I can hardly tell the wears on them (except some fine hairline cracks with normal age), and the car is mainly a city daily driver.

I rotate my KO2 at every oil change.. I run synthetic and change oil at 7,000 mi and I rotate the spare tire. My tires have about 10k on them so can't really give much feedback on wear.

5k

A standard tread gauge will still work on those tires, but you'll need to average several measurements across the tread to make sure you don't get a reading from just one high or one low tread block. That will give you objective info on how the tread wear is going. You mentioned "a few years" for age. Look at the date code on the tires and if they are over 6 years old, make sure you inspect them carefully during each rotation to make sure they remain solid and safe.

From a tire guy....every 5k. You can't rotate too much as long as you don't use an impact and screw up your studs

I have 35" km2's and rotate every 5k on a five tire rotation which includes my full size spare. I always balance the two front tires and run 42psi cold. So far so good.

5K For me. 5 Tire rotation, per Tire Rack's recommended pattern. It's been working well. Very even wear and not so often that it seems like a hassle. Plus, at the same time I check the rotors, pad thickness, E-Brake linkage, etc.
