Say I'm driving to the trail .. a really tough one . :flipoff2:

How far of a highway drive would you trust bias tires to ? Super Swampers lets say .. or IROKS . The hwy would be in excellent shape .

Taking into consideration safety , wear , noise , ride quality .. and could you qualify your answer(s) with a speed in mind .

2 hrs .. 4 ... 12 ??

38 minutes ? ;p

They are not as good a radials, but I remember when all tires were bias ply and we all drove all over the country. They don't handle or stop as well, so just dont go too fast.

Laughing,

Sorry........I sometimes forget that there is a whole generation here that probably has no experience with Bias Ply tires, never seen black and white TV, or a 45 rpm record.

The entire WORLD has driven the piss out of bias plys for more years than anyone here has been alive. I don't prefer them over radials...but you needn't worry yourself.

As a baby... you were probably brought home from the hospital on a set of bias plys. Go for it.

Actually my first pickup was a heavy half ton 2WD .. shiftkit .. 350 ..

I was so dumb back in highschool that I would mix bias and radials on the truck . Put fat slick bias in the rear , and radials up front ..

But then I used to jack up both side of the truck to swap tires .. and nearly get crushed when the wind would blow over the truck on me !

Maybe I'm a 'lil biased as a result .. :D

Yes, bias tires ruled the world, but keep in mind that we are talking apples and oranges dude. Are you saying all bias tires are the same and all radials are the same?

That said, T, for me, driving bias swampers, it would depend on how frequent. I would not dd them, but if I was going wheeling once a month and wanted to drive there with them on I'd probably drive up to 6 hours one way. That said, you'll go through tires much quicker that way. I'd try to draw a more practical limit of something like 3 hrs ea. way with an occassional longer one. That's me though.

I always thought they got better as they got warmed up. I'd definitely do it for a wheeling trip here or there. I wouldn't do it if I had to drive them short distance all the time. The out of roundness until they got warmed up would drive me nuts.

I have driven 3 hours at about 65 mph with my bais ply Swampers. Once they warm up the ride is not that bad. The biggest issue is noise. :crybaby:

As far as safety just make sure you run them at high pressure, like near the max side wall pressure.

I am planning to drive my rig with Swampers to CMCC'05. This will be about 8 hours of driving for me. I'll let you know how it goes.
