How Does a 1HZ Compare to a 2F?

Great new info!
We would all love to see photos. How the hell did you get to 7100lbs?
I thought my 60 was a brick at 6120lbs?

Would love to see the HZ in the gasser 60.
What did you do for a trany?
Did the HZ come turboed? I assume you got it from Japan4X4?
12 or 24 volt?
Did you get the tach to work?
Custom Motor mounts?
What did you do for a throttle cable?
So many questions.

No idea how I got to 7100 lbs - especially when the stocker started at 4,328lbs according to TLC.

HZ, Safari Turbo, 12volt, H55, FF-cables, Aux. fuel tank, 35" spare, bumpers, tools, drawers, Maggiolina. I must have a few pounds of rocks still stashed in the truck somewhere?

Throttle Cable - stock HZ7x cable. 70 series mount on Right, 60 series mount on Left,

Radiator Shroud = flip the stock 60 one upside down and you'll only need a small amount of modifications. Rob Lassman has learned already about placing the engine so the radiator & fan line up. I had to do a little customizing on my radiator and fan shroud.

I'll look into learnng to post photos here - I'm sure it's just a size thing.

Bob

And now the clutch in my HZJ75 needs replacing :frown::shotts: so now I cant afford a blower for a little while

place #1 in your wish list . :D

Alright, I'm going to take up some space, now that I've figured out the photo posting.

2f -to 1HZ-t Incoming photos

I'll work on some stuff. Let me master shrinking photos without stretching and do some writing.

Bob

2 ways ,open up MS paint and click on view ,stetch/skew and drop each side down by an equal %

Or download the image resizer from MS

If you have windows XP, you can use email to shrink it.
Left click on the image file and select the "send to email recipient" link.
Xp will ask you if you want to send original image or make it smaller.
Make it smaller.
XP will launch a new email with the attachment in the message body.
Drag the attachment out of the email and onto your desktop.
When attaching photos on mud, just point to your desktop and select the image to upload. About 95% of the photos done this way will work, but if your original image size was HUGE, you might have to do it twice. In that case, use a specialized program to do it.

hey guys, Ive used the bible and cant find what i want. What ball bearing garret turbo would be best suited. I am looking at a GT25 internal wastegated. Any body used these. What about the disco potato GT28rs. Does anyone know how if it is possible to put the 12mm 12HDT plunger in the injector pump. Or just a boost compensator on the standard pump is enough. I want to run about 16psi. Is this too high. Is the motor not strong enough. Any help would be great?
Thanks Julian
Edit: forgot to add I will be running a front mount intercooler or barrel cooler if that makes a difference.

First of all you need to set a power figure you want to acheive. The mods will then be determined by that. A standard 1hz pump is only good for 90-100kw.
A boost comp needs to be fitted to keep exhaust emmissions clean under all conditions. Once you know your power requirements then comes matching a turbo to suit, then fueling requirements.

Yes a 12mm head and rotor can be fitted, but its not just a bolt in and away you go fitup.

I dont kow of any high powered 1hz's. You may have to be a guinea pig to find out.

Hope this helps

speak to west end diesel, they have built some fairly powerful, internally standard 1HZ's. Phill (slowhilux) off this board has a turbo'd, intercooled, 3" exhaust, boost compensated 1HZ running 14(?)psi, internally standard, and it goes hard. be prepared for sticker shock though, it is an expensive shop.

the limits of the pump in standard trim depend on how much smoke you are prepared to put up with (and to some extent, how religiously you change your oil). I have turbo'd 1HZ's with no boost compensation, running 9psi with no intercooler, EGT's around 520C MAX, and almost no visible smoke off boost, sure you can get more go out of it by turning up the fuel but it doesn't need it - there is a reasonable balance to be struck. with the right turbo and exhaust, boost is available right off idle so smoke is minimal even without boost compensation. I have used the ceramic turbine, ball bearing nissan-imitation-garrett from 300ZX on several 1HZ's with good success (ask DX80, or surfection/ferog).

as Dzltec says, find a turbo that makes the sort of power you intend to achieve, or about 10 - 15% more (indirect injection robs a lot from the boost) and work from there. If you are building custom, the good news is you can build a VERY short adaptor from the standard manifold - about 35mm long from memory, just long enough to have the manifold studs clear the turbo flange. you could probably go shorter if you trim a bit off the manifold studs. that's enough free hints!

cheers

DD

thanks for the info. I want reliability but I want to keep up to the 1HD. Is this possible. I am thinking gas aswell. Everyone has boosted TD42's (35psi and more) but i cant seem to find any info on the 1HZ. I might be the guinea pig if i pass the hat round and you put in for the new motor Laughing

Have you dyno'd this engine?

If so what sort of power are we talking about.

I run 16psi in my 1hz and it goes hard, would love to heard how one goes with 30psi

i had a 1hz in my old ute with a dts top mount ic, denco turbo 13psi compensator 3 in exaust and made 152 rwhp with 35s ad 1200 lbs or torque bit smoky down low but it hammerd for a 1hz... The boys at chapmans set it up for me... If u go 2 cruza park u will know who they are.. ( that was the pump maxed out)

depends on the dyno, they all seem to vary??? but is around 170+ rwkw and massive amounts of torque . it only ever gets to 30psi at around 5000rpm makes around 23ish no probs by around 3000rpm then builds slower from there depending on how loaded it is.

was this a reliable set up. Did it over heat with that much boost. Sounds good you made 152 at 13psi Laughing

I got DTS kit on mine, 3" mandrell ex, compensator, and PWR front mount i/c, at 10-11psi it makes 105rwkw, with 315/75 tires, max egt as it is now it just touches on 500deg. Before all this happened the atmo 1hzzzz made a mighty 46rwkw Shocked

Oh, Brian allready explained all that Laughing

This is same that I run, except I have a top mounted I/C at 16psi on 33's.

I haven't dyno'd it yet, will one day.

ETG never goes over 500. And has run on this set up for nearly 4 years.
Never had a problem with teh engine except for a water pump and collasped battery.
Blows bugger all smoke and goes hard.
I love it.

Would like to shove another 3-4psi in it, but she "breaths" a little heavy. Not sure if it has somthing to do with craps baffles in the rocker cover or not. Doesnt use any oil either. Anyone pulled the cover off and made new baffles?

too much blowby? maybe a leakdown test before you boost up. if there's just too much oil spray, a catch can will clean it up. There's always some oil there. an engine "using no oil" just means it is burning its oil at the same rate that it's adding contaminants - water/CO/HC/Fuel from blowby etc.

boost it hard, it's only a motor, if it holes a piston you can rebuild it with turbo pistons and then boost it harder!

Have a catch can, it mists up quite a bit with a filter on it, but mow i have it returning into the intake, with the drain Tee-d into the turbo drain. I mite fill the can with steel wool, to slow down the rate the oily mist enters back into the comp. housing (and cooler/pipes). I know its only a motor, problem is if it s*** itself, i would find it real hard to find the funds to rebuild it. Damn houses, always slow down the spend rate on toys cussing
