I've been underwhelmed by mine as well; if it ever goes out I am not going to make an effort to fix it. And I'm fixing to put a front bumper on that may disable it anyway, I don't really think it will be much of a loss.

We have some pics of Night View in use also at the bottom of this page: Specs — Lux Cruisers

I wouldn't mind having it here is foggy/rainy PNW, seems useful even if not perfect.

It was only an option on LXs from '03-'06 I believe. Never offered on the Land Cruiser. The windshield is EXPENSIVE to replace: like, $1800 expensive if I recall.

It sounds like we should avoid it at cost, and that consequently the market value of any LX so equipped should be basically nil.

Yeah, for the same reason I recommend cutting off your ears too since when they break, hearing aids are expensive!

I wish I could get the night view to project across my entire windshield

Now that would be cool. Is similar technology used in any production cars these days? I'd like to see how the tech has matured.
High end luxury cars are adopting advanced night vision technology. Both Rolls Royce as well as high trim level Mercedes have it. This is from a Rolls Royce Ghost

I drive by feel, if I hit something back up and try again in a slightly different direction till the obstacle is cleared.

My wife drives like that. She once backed into my lifted 3/4 ton Suburban...twice. Hit it, drove forward , turned the wheel and backed into it again. She used the excuse that it was winter and the Suburban was white so she didn't see it. Damnit woman, there wasn't a whiteout blizzard and backing into a snow drift feels and sounds alot diffrent than crushing your husbands soul.

Nightview is trash I never use it.
