I don't know if yall get this too but when I go through dirty water offroading or on a back road I start to get these noises from hell. Absolute ear r@$ers. Sounds like really really past due brakes. No clue what it is, doesn't go away if I clean brakes with clean water or brake Klen. May be a stupid question but still confuses me. Past couple times it has happened it just goes away magically, not in a slow progression. Pisses me off

Do you file the brake pad surface to remove all particulates too?

I've had and periodically hear some of that. The left front likes to squeak. Sometimes it squeaks and other times it stays quiet. Running through water quietens it. Other times it makes it worse. I plan to take it apart this week to check the clips that hold the brake shoes in place.

One thing that I did find during a pre-trip brake inspection is the emergency brake drum likes to fill up with mud. The adjustment and access holes were all properly plugged. The mud creeps in between the shoes and the drum. There was a faint squeak coming from this wheel. Since everything is plugged up for the emergency brakes as it should be, I may need to periodically pull the drums to clean out the mud after one or two outings. No rust. Just mud and dirt.
