Yeah, that’s a great field report on the tires. @DanKunz I’m assuming you got the E’s? And at what pressure you run on the highway?

Yeah E. I run at 38-40 highway.

Just updating my progress in this never ending quest to get the GX470 ready to take me places I can only dream of...Costa Rica...Baja...mainline Mexico...all the national parks in the western USA...ahhh...I can only dream.

Now the diff drop is somewhat controversial. Some people say do it. Some people say forget it unless you lift the front 3" or more. So, I did it even though I'm only like 2.5" lifted in the front. It looks pretty bulky, but the diff spacers will be protected by the new skid plates I just ordered. I'll post back to see if I lose ground clearance because the skid plates might be a little lower to clear the dropped diff support brackets. TotalChaos Diff Drop Kit #TCS-87300 $36 plus shipping and no upfront tax. www.wheelersoffroad.com

I also replaced the weak diff support bracket with the upgraded 2006+ diff support bracket #52380-60021 $111.60, free shipping, no upfront tax, from www.TRDParts.com

I was already in that area upgrading to the new diff support bracket, so I figured to do the diff drop as well. Diff drop kit was cheap $36 and it takes under 30 minutes to do for a  one banana mechanic.

The angle of the CV looked pronounced, so I figure I level it a little. I was not leaking nor having any CV issues that I could tell. It was more preventive maintenance than anything else.

I could easily remove the diff drop if I start scraping my soon to be installed aluminum skid plates.

Hey! New gx470 owner and this build is real good. It gives me a nice feel for what im looking to do. Fyi concerning the slip yoke grease point, alot of times it does not get grease due to the nipples being in a un-oppertune placement when the vehicle stops. I know this because when I was a young turd working in a lube shop I would forgo these fittings to not have to roll the vehicle back. Yeah, I was lazy. But sweet build!

Good point. I’m gonna demand greasing the zerk on every oils change

This showed up today. I’m going to Hawaii for a week, so won’t install until July.

Yeah, this is the wildest color I’ve ever picked. I figured it’s under the car, so it’s not that visible but it should stand out.

Nice looking truck! Gives me some ideas for how I want to go about building mine. You still have the 80 in your sig?

My son drives the 80 and still lives at home, so I didn’t take it off my sig. I see it every day and still keep an eye on it. Lots of great memories on that 80.

Oh crap! I’m in Hawaii on vacation and just realized that my front engine skid plate doesn’t have a hole for the oil change! Arghhh. I’m contacting RockSteady to see what’s my option.

Just got home and found a package with my rear clear taillights. My build is now complete! LOL. Front clear fog lights now match the rear tail lights. I don't know why I like the clear tail lights so much that I spent money on this mod that could have gone towards a couple of repairs that I need. Ordered from MegaZip.net. Took two weeks (from order date) to arrive at my doorstep.

I took videos while doing the window mouldings on the doors. It was easy. It took about 30 minutes to do both front and rear doors on both sides.

The videos are super boring. I don't know how to stitch the videos together, so there are in separate files. I'm going to try out some free software to stitch the videos together and put them on my YouTube channel. Update: MP4 Tools lets you split and join mp4 files. Here they are joined for the front and separately for the rear:

Front door window moulding replacement:

The quarter panel mouldings look much more difficult because you have to remove the inside panels to remove the screw that loosens the quarter window. I estimate the quarter window trim to take at least 2 hours to do it right.

I decided just to get the quarter panel window mouldings done now. It did take me about 2 hours because I dropped the window nut behind the interior panel and I had to remove all the interior panels to retrieve it. Argghhh.

The nut loosens the quarter window and allows you remove the 4th clip that holds the moulding. There's 3 clips on the bottom of the moulding and one on the upper side.

Here are some photos and video that show the upper clip holding the moulding.

I'm not the first one to do the mouldings. There's a lot of information on the window mouldings in a few other threads. I got the black moulding part numbers from @ScatAdams in this post Best Mod for under $100

I ordered from the same place MegaZip.net and took about two weeks to get the parts. In addition to the mouldings, I ordered the clear tail light lenses and the windshield moulding as well. The prices were higher since ScatAdams posted his prices in the above post.

Is this an aesthetic or functional mod?

Terrible design on those rear mouldings! I swapped mine using a combination of pick tools, trim removal tools and beer. All items were essential to the success of the project. Looking back I wish I would have just pulled the interior panels.
