Update on my replacement Bilstein 6112 #47-284142 heavy kit coilover…the authorized reseller says the mfg does not share spring rate. They only says it’s for 150 to 200 lbs of extra weight.

Also, they believe the spring rate is around the 650 700 lbf/n….unofficially. I’m hoping it is since that’s what I wanted.

If you call Bilstein and ask them about the spring rate, they will tell you 700lbs.

Time for a heavy aftermarket rear bumper and spare tire swing out to make up for the extra spring rate. :lol:
The domino effect works in mysterious ways. But this is the front coilovers at 700 lbf/in not the rear springs.

@HomersCanyonero

Quick question,

Are you aware of any difference between a ICON 56550 and a Icon 56505? I am trying to source the same rear shocks that you have used on your build but Metaltech doesn't have them in stock.

Will being doing as you did, rear airbag trick for a short while, then converting to springs.

Based on my notes when I did the research a while back, the main difference between the ICON 56550 and 56505 is the length of the shock.

56550 = Extended Travel
Compressed length = 17"
Extended length = 28.5"

56505 = Standard Travel
Compressed length = 15"
Extended length = 24.5"

Time for a heavy aftermarket front bumper with a winch! 😀
Don't think that it hasn't crossed my mind...but I have to keep it real and focus on my mild to medium overlanding goals.

Im having a very hard time source these shocks online. Would you know of comparable shock?

Everything has long lead times currently...Icon and Bilstein are backordered globally. Metaltech @helocat is your best bet for Icon and if they don't have it no one will. For a comparable shock, only Bilstein and Icon have shocks with digressive damping so Bilstein 5100s would be your best bet for an in stock rear shock with this damping. If you want long travel OME and Dobinsons also make them.

Seems I'm SOL for finding any ICONS. Not sure if Bilstein makes long travel shocks but ill do some more research.

Thank you yes we do have ICON in stock for our GX470s.

Bilstein does not make long travel. Only an extra inch or 2

So your statement that you have icons is correct, you just out of stock on the Icon 56550s per your web site

Ah looking for the rear long travel 2.0 shock, yes those we have on order. The #1 best selling ICON suspension system is the Stage 2 kit, so we are deep in that to support the demand for them. We really try to keep the rear long travel shocks in stock too, however those along with the custom US made rear long travel springs have been difficult to get more stock of.

Looks like I will go with Bilstein 5100s in the rear. Currently only have a inch of lift in the rear so I should be fine.
Been trying my best to stick shocks with digressive valving for the rear, to avoid the bucking you experienced with other shocks paired with 6112s fronts.

Sorry for hijacking your post. Im done now ha

Look what arrived just now! No mention of the spring rate and Bilstein USA has not responded to my inquiry regarding spring rate.

Bilstein USA recommends the 5160s shock 25-227611 to go with these heavy duty front coilovers

Replaced battery and took opportunity to clean the battery holding bracket. The nut was stuck and was squeezing old battery at an angle.

Procrastinating the installation of the HD coilovers in the front…

I also drilled 3/8” holes into an aluminum bar 1.5” thick by 2” wide by 7” long to serve as bump stop spacers for the rear.

I had purchased these aluminum bars a while back for like $25/pair plus another $8 in bolts and washers.

I added this homemade bumpstop spacer 1.5” to the drivers side only, but now the oem bumpstop is only about 2.5” from the axle. Seems too close. I’ll test it out but I have a feeling I don’t need spacers for the oem bumpstops.

I’m hoping to re-use these spacers for when I get the timbren ones.
