Homemade tailgates and latches...lets see some pictures

I am planning on cutting in a tailgate this fall and I am researching the different methods people have used cutting their tailgates and keeping them closed. Can you post up some pics of the the different ways you have accomplished this and the latches and hinges you have used.

The only thing I would do differently is use some weld one hinges like this rather than making my own:

Not homemade, but it is a great design imho.

I'm assuming you're talking about a M416 or similar trailer, but in case your not, here's my homebuilt one. Might give you a different idea for the latches. This has worked out really well for me so far. Simple and super cheap.

My son works as a Toyota tech and ordered them for me. The only ones still available are the passenger side. I took one and modified for the drivers side. The piece that they hook to I fabed myself.
Looks like there's some nice set ups out there.

I was curious about that too. Same latch used for the barn doors.

I just posted these in my build thread....so I feel like an attention whore
Old style windshield latches that I had. Adjustable and they pull the sides toward the tailgate. And they were "free"....kinda. Well I had them on hand.

These are made by DE-STA-CO and can be bought at Granger. I like them and they keep both the tailgate and lid securely sealed but aren't lockable. And I don't want to put padlocks on the outside of my trailer. So I'll be putting in lockable recessed latches on the tailgate and one on the lid.
