Hi all!
I am about to go and look at a HJ61 fully restored in Spain.
Never owned a LC but finally I can afford it. (Picture show another HJ61 but with the same setup)

Made a checklist to follow when I look at the truck but I would really appreciate anything that could be important points to check. Especially the HJ61.

BASIC
[ ] Vin match
[ ] Service history + Mileage
[ ] Owner history
FUNCTIONS
[ ] Coldstart
[ ] Instrumentation
[ ] Lightning Ext/Int
[ ] A/C
[ ] Heater
[ ] 4x4 Locks?
[ ] Horn
[ ] Windows
[ ] Door locks
DRIVING
[ ] Sounds
[ ] Brake balance
[ ] Parkingbrake
[ ] Check all the gears during engine braking (not pop out)
CHASSIS/AXLE
[ ] Rust
[ ] Dampers
[ ] Leakage
[ ] Bearings
[ ] Differential oil
[ ] Full float axles installed
[ ] LSD Diff function
[ ] Check winch function
ENGINE

(Engine should start up with a touch to the key. If it does not, there might be air leak somewhere in fuel line)

For HJ61 add the following:
Check front and rear diff lockers they are operational, if equipped. (You listed LSD rear lock)
Same with mechanical winch, if equipped.
Has turbo been serviced? If you can, check for play, smoke(blue) and noise. Little "whining" is ok.
Engine should start up with a touch to the key. If it does not, there might be air leak somewhere in fuel line, or something worse.
H55F manual gearbox with towing history? Check all the gears they don't "pop out" during engine braking. + listen for noises.

What else... seems like you have a good list already. If the 61 has been professionally restored, everything should be OK.

As Hojo said "professionally" and "should". There are variations in restorations. If you can put up some pictures of the car and we will tell you if it is professionally done or not. :)

They even included free rust!

i would see if you can get any before pictures To see what work was done. Or in progress work. New paint always makes me nervous. Lots of spray and flips on foreign land cruisers.

I would also see if possible to get a compression check, and general health check at a different (trusted if you can find it) mechanic. It’s a good sign if they had the injectors /pump rebuilt.

You won't be the only person interested in this cruiser and the seller will likely be able to choose whom he sells it to. While your check list is thorough and exhaustive, it's far too detailed.
You'll likely not get to check all those things as the seller likely won't have the patience and if you don't buy it, certainly someone else will.

Buying a hero cruiser is a lot like buying any rare item that comes up for sale- it's a race against other prospective buyers to get it first.

I'd walk around it, take a good look under it and inside it, start it & listen, then drive it. That's pretty much all you're going to get.

Good point! I will get further pictures. They feel trustworthy by communication.
Anyone know a good mechanic in Malaga?;)

Also good points.
Just the first time I get a LC so will of course learn more as a owner.
Just don't you go grab it before me
