Although....I suppose I'd have enough left over for portals and 40s if I bought a 91 LC instead of a 97 LX... ;p

Seriously tho, I do like the cutting job on this thread and if its working on your bigger tires it will definately work with mine. Do you have any rubbing anywhere anymore?

Yeah Beno hit it on the head. I have been busy. There has been very little progress in the last 3 mos. I am finishing up the front fender openings today. The bumper and the wheels are going to powder coat this week. Hopefully you shall see this project back in action.

George your bumper project looks great and most importantly its done!

Kirk,
I'm comparing your vertical pillar (D pillar?) to mine with what I just did this evening...
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=174374

Looking at yours, you cut a little higher than I did on the outer part of the pillar. Thinking of going higher myself.... noticed any issues with yours? Lacking support?

Hi Eric,

I think you have it about where I am now. What I kept in mind when I was cutting.

1 It does not go back on easy if you cut too much.

2 I always think ahead of the method I will use to modify or recover what I cut.

3 I want to keep the body as strong as stock.

If you keep these on the forefront of your mind while working and repeat them with every step you will stay out of trouble.

With that said I liked where I stopped on the quarter panel b/c it is flush with the floor. Its strong and easy to patch back in. I would not cut any more off the inner pillar. Just cap it up with some 14ga and it will be fine. As far as cutting up higher keep in mind your taillights are about the limit and I ended up about 1.25south of them but my bumper goes higher. after this the real constraint becomes the droopy frame rails that I moved up 2 inches and the tailgate bottom that reall cant be imporved unless the truck gets bobbed.

I will post up more pics soon. the bumper is back from powder coating and ready to go on as soon as I paint and rewire the tailights.

Thanks. Very good advice. I think I will leave the pillar as-is and work around it like you. Thanks for the pics of cutting inspiration! I'm going with mini sliders on the side though instead of a rear bumper. i was going to use 2x4 tube to match my current sliders but now since I gotta work around the pillar I'll just use 2x2 tube.

That is a bad ass set up. What a cool thread:beer: Just wish I had a little more time and money to do some of the things I have been reading about.

Well done...

That is a work of art, very impressive. It looks like you repainted the whole undercairrage. You could eat Christmas dinner off of there. :D

That exhaust exit is clean, clean, clean. No rattles from the exhaust with the tight clearance? Not baging, just curious.

No rattles except the V8 and flowmaster are loud. I came up with a clamp to keep it centered you can barely see it ing the underbody shot. I sandblasted and rebuilt the entire chassis and floorpans the last few mos. Ohio road salt is bad on cruisers

How are the sliders going to be mounted? Looks like to the body instead of the frame.

Both because the exo is hooked to the body. I have two mounts welded to the frame and the sliders are connected to the mounts with 5/8" bolts
