Dammit, now I got to cut mine up! Like the front fenders. Very nice work Kirk.

Kirk, very nice, I echo TiredIron sediments exactly. It's so great see people approaching projects with a completely different design. It’s this type of innovative thinking really helps to push the envelope of what is possible. Great job on your rig, it looks sweet. If you wouldn’t mind I would like to gather some information on your front and rear fenders. I will PM you, thanks. Tare

Kirk, can you outline your basic procedure?

Did you cut till everything cleared and then replace metal to reestablish the inner fenders? Or did you simply "displace" the metal til it cleared and then weld everything back together? There is obviously new metal there, but I'm wondering if you just cut it all out to begin with, or cut and fit, cut and fit, and then used the new metal to cover the gaps.

Thanks for the pics!

What did you use to score that line?
What did you use to cut it with?
How thick is that metal?
Ever clean your truck? Especially the inside of your ARB. You got a nest in there! LOL!
What's your dogs name? And nice he likes 80's.

I WILL TRY TO WHEN I HAVE SOME TIME

YES, CUT THE OUTSIDE OF THE FENDER WHERE I WANTED IT, THEN PROJECTED BACK INSIDE THE FENDERWELL TO A FLAT POINT. THIS WORKED OUT TO BE ABOUT 5.5 INCHES.

Or did you simply "displace" the metal til it cleared and then weld everything back together?
I SAW THAT THERE WAS TOO MUCH INVOLVED WITH HAMMERING CUTTING AND WELDING THE STOCK WELL TO THE PROFILE I NEEDED. SO I OPTED TO CUT IT ALL OUT.

CUT IT ALL OUT WITH AN AIR POWERED JIG SAW.

Thanks for the pics!

What did you use to score that line?

A TOOL THAT HAS A SCRIBE MOUNTED ON ARM WITH AN ADJUSTABLE STOP. THIS WAY I PROJECT OUT THE EXACT ORIGINAL CONTOUR.

What did you use to cut it with?

AIR POWERED JIG SAW. MATCO TOOLS

How thick is that metal?

16GA ABOUT 1/16" THICK. IT IS MUCH THICKER THAN OEM. THE LIPS ARE THE SAME. THEY GIVE IT MORE STIFFNESS WHEN FINISHED.

NOPE, MY 80 IS A WHEELER, NO POSERS, NO SHOWBOYS. OHIO IS A DIRTY PLACE!

What's your dogs name? And nice he likes 80's.
JAKE, HE'S THE BOSS OF THE GARAGE.

great work
on the front fender:
is there an extra 3/4ish strap at the inner fender edge welded on top of the 16g filler steel? it looks like there is a strap at the edge on post #109. or is the inner fender 16g go rigtht to the edge of the fender where you welded?

on the rear fender:
there is no filler added to the inner fender. But you used just a 3/4ish strap all the way around on the inside--correct?

I created and welded a 16ga lip just like the factory fender. the inner fender well sits above this and will be screwed and glued just like at araco I wanted the front fender still removable

When the back fender is cut out it reveals a 1/4" gap to the inner fender. the tack welds fasten the lip to the inner fender and that will have the same factory sealer caulked in it.

Oooh...that should give me the little bit extra full stuff clearance I need!

Meanest portal having 80 guy ever! :crybaby:
