I have a weber on my 71 and the man who owned it before I did put over 2" of spacers under carb. I don't know if that would help any

And mine had to have the spacers to match up with the stock breather too

It looks like I would need a lot more than 2 inches. And doesn't even look like those lines would actually bolt up to the inlet and outlet of the carb. And I don't even know where to begin when it comes to the throttle linkage. Thanks for the help

The lines would need to be cut and bent to line up and then attach to the weber

It is not a direct bolt on

If I were you I would buy a Trollhole carb.... It's new replacement ... A direct bolt on (or very VERY close to being one) and youll retain all the oem stuff to go with it

if you live were the cruiser will be subjected to a smog check, the weber is going to be very disappointing. even one of the trollholes is not smog compliant.

Take it back, tell them it doesn't fit, and buy an Aisan from the classifieds and send to Jim c for rebuilding, or from cruiserparts.net.

never heard of trollhole. I'll look into it. thanks!

Fortunately, smog checks are not a problem in Louisiana. I've been running all my cars catless since high school lol

I bought the Weber over 2 years ago now. I might try bending lines this weekend. My ultimate goal is to put the 350 TPI engine from my 89 Camaro in there. Those motors have great low end torque

FJ40 Jim is a great resource---but, since you have the carb and have somewhat started the rebuild, I would continue with it. You will be very satisfied with an OEM carb you rebuilt yourself. You can get the kits(Hygrade) from RockAuto for ~$55--kit # 391B)) Take a look at Pin_Head's You Tube Videos of how to do this--watch them 10 times before attempting the rebuild. You will have all the info you need to successfully rebuild your Carb--it's way easier than you think-
If you still think it is beyond your means to do this, absolutely send it to Jim--quality rebuild

Ok. So I've finally decided to break out the old original Aisin that I had given up on rebuilding years ago. Here's where I'm at. I can't seem to find the weight that goes in between the "stopper" and the "steel ball." Any ideas on getting just this piece or using something as a substitute?

Also, this forum is not like any other forum I've been on. I can't seem to figure out how to message FJ40 Jim. On his profile there is nothing that seems to allow me to PM him

Ok. So after getting all the pieces of the Aisan carb out of the box, I got intimidated and went back to try getting the weber to work. Got the car started! Finally running on its own in almost 20 years! I put in a new fuel pump and ran a line straight to a 2 gallon gas can because the fuel tank is rusted through the bottom.

2 questions. (1) I can't seem to find a fuel filter for a '77 FJ40. Tried ebay and specter. Can I just use a universal fuel filter?
(2) How hard of a job is it to get the fuel tank out??

Thanks for all the help!

Also. Is there no fuel return for the Weber carb???? The other fuel line (I'm guessing is a return line to tank) is not connected to anything right now, but no gas is leaking from carb... Thanks again

Dylan,
Here is some help with your two questions:
1. Toyota OEM Fuel Filter (23030-60030) - http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/oe-toyota/2303060030?search_str=23030-60030
2. Fuel Tank, replaced mine about two months ago: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/ne...-and-another-and-another.818331/#post-9367736
