So I've been looking for that perfect 100 for months it seems like to replace my 60. I haven't had any luck with anything in Texas, but I stumbled on a 1 owner 03 LC with less than 90k miles. Only problem is it's outside of Chicago and I'm worried about the rust. Attached are some pics.

I'm getting antsy, but want to make a smart move. This one looks super clean.

Any concerns from the 100 experts?

I'd stray away from that and stick with finding something in Texas.

Based on the rust on the under carriage?

I'd love to find one in Texas, but tough to find. Either has an issue, or out of my price range.

Nope!

Much better ones to be had in Houston/Dallas/Austin/San Antonio areas.

I concur with the panel - I'd keep looking, based on the rust.

The one in FL looks nice in the pics... although, I'd be skeptical - it turned blue half way through the gallery ;) The price seem more in line with the '06/7 100s.

That would be considered rust free up here. Seriously. New vehicles look worse than that after a year if they aren't religiously sprayed off during salt season.

I envy those of you who can shop nationwide for one or live where rust isn't an issue.

I see these comments sometimes and I wonder why. If you are shopping for a vehicle that will cost 5 figures $, why can't you shop outside your own geographic area? I have gone many places to look at a vehicle. A 250$ plane ticket ot a few tanks of gas is cheap versus buying a vehicle with rust if you are planning to keep it any length of time

I agree that it does make sense, but it's not always feasible.

In a perfect scenario I'd consider doing that, and it would be fun to do so some day. My reality is that I don't have the time or money to shop nationwide for a vehicle. Plane tickets out of Portland, Boston, or Manchester are very expensive unless there is some serious planning involved. I'd have to figure out child care and make sure I had the time off from work. I looked at a lot of trucks in a 100 mile radius that were disappointments even though the pictures looked great. I'd hate to have that happen 500-800-1000-1500 miles from home. A couple trips like that and my truck money would start disappearing.

Every region has its pros and cons. My choice is to live in northern New England. By doing so, I accept that vehicular rust is something that has to be dealt with. I feel comfortable that the LX I bought will last me 10 years. That's all I really want out of a vehicle.

Ship it. I've bought my last 4 vehicles site unseen from far away. I just bought a tundra from CA.

I had the dealer drive it down to Toyota, paid them to do an inspection and send me a few detailed photos of areas of concern. Then worked out a deal with the small dealer selling the truck. Looks like it'll cost me about $1200 to have it shipped to my door.

I have been able to look nationwide for this truck which allowed me to get exactly what I wanted at a great price even after you consider shipping. Plus it's a completely rust free truck that's been in SoCal the first 7 years of its life.

Toyota may repair or replace due to rust. I say this because I was recently at Slee and was told Toyota did on one over ten years old, when they were able to poke through rust. I was very surprised at his. I don't know if it was for first owner or if any other consideration. That said; I would not buy rust.

The price of ANY rust repair is more than the cost of shopping for and shipping a 100.
You know what else is nice? Putting a wrench on a bolt and turning it. Seriously, rust can suck the fun right out of any car/truck. When I had a rusty CJ, I found that I was soooo reluctant to do anything to it... just dreaded the snapped bolts, busted knuckles...

I am searching myself. Found a lot of fairly low mile trucks but they keep ending up being east coast even if they are in California! I refuse to buy a rusty Cruiser even if it is low mile and well maintained.

Here is a good looking 100 in Texas and the price is solid.

2004 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!(O.B.O)

Cheers
