Hi, I recently purchased a 1974 FJ40 with some mods done to it. There's this large knob/button on the dash that doesn't look stock. I bought it from the second owner and he never knew what it is or did either. Can someone help me identify what it is? Thanks.

Random, but my 1964 has something similar and it has a cable attached to it that loops through the engine bay and connects to the passenger side kick out panel for air. Mine has an aftermarket heater which doesn’t make it easy to kick that panel out (although you can reach and do it), but unfortunately the knob doesn’t work on the panel. Good idea, but not executed well. I haven’t even messed with it to see if I can get it to work, but I like the idea.

I love mystery part identification. Post up some pics of where it goes through your dash/firewall and what it connects to.

No clue on the knob but what is the mico brake lock for? Is that the emergency brake?
That Micro Brake Lock is an E-Brake. It works too! You flick the switch and press the brake down and it holds the brakes. It works without the key switched too.

It has a Chevy 327 conversion with original 4 speed manual. The stock E-Brake no longer works.

Its probably just a line lock. It's not really considered an Ebrake.

More photos of my new rig as requested. Cleaning it up but keeping the body paint patina as much as possible. Chassis and floorboards are pretty rust free. Removed the custom rear bumper and restored the original and got new OEM bumperettes. Got new OEM round mirrors with telescoping arms.

From your first post there is a "micro brake switch" for engagement. Construction equipment used them in "the day".

Hand throttle, used on big rigs. I have a new one of those hanging on the wall at the shop for over 20 years. Keep meaning to install it. Poor man's cruise control.

Yours is a little more vintage in that it requires rotating the knob to release the tension on the cable. Mine has a 'panic button' in the middle you can hit with the palm of your hand to release.

I’ll bet @Fj81 has seen a few.

Cool! Thank you! I’m scared to try it though but I will and keep everyone posted. Thanks.
