Help... Looking at buying a 1986 LJ70

There will be more MWB HZJ73/75 available as the 25 year rule marches on. I would wait for one of them.
Bidding 3 days out from the end of auction is crazy.

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes into the 20s. Some people get caught up in the hysteria and carry on like it their last chance ever to get a 7* series.

At 20K you're firmly in the BJ/ HJ range in which case I wouldn't give a LJ a second look.

But if it could be bought for $15k then I should be ok.. if I am going to send $20k plus it has to be a Fj/bj 40-42

Disclaimer: I'm in NO WAY trying to encouraged or discourage the purchase of anyone's vehicle.
However there are multiple BJ70's currently in 'MUD's Classified section that are advertised for 15K or less.

I would love a bj70.. my number one rule is that the top has to come off... if I am giving up my wranglers.. then I have to be able to take the top off of whatever I buy next... that's what makes it a bit harder...

Good to know. I Think I will still fly out and check this LJ out... the flight is nonrefundable.... and it look like it's going to be in the 20s to buy a BJ 70 series that's been somewhat redone.

That's interesting I wonder if that's the reason it has low mileage ? Well kilometers .... sorry! It's still cooler than a Jeep Wrangler... I just wish there where more 70 series for sale

as the other guys said….bj might be a better engine choice to start with…

not to mention few more thousands spent while you will change all fluids, waxy oil it, replace parts.

Im well over 5k mark since I bought it with mine and still loads more to do….

so a relatively cheap truck is actually not that cheap….!

as for the mileage, that needs judged when you see the truck. A trained guy with couple screwdrivers can change the odometer in half an hour.
I reseted my t belt counter myself, simply lift few tabs and spin the wheels. easy….

fingers crossed this truck its ok for you!

I feel you on that one... and to me $15k is a ton of money! For 20k Ivan have a 82 Fj40... gas motor.. not as cool but will hold it's value a lot better

@fj40er ......"It's still cooler than a Jeep Wrangler"

Goes without saying. :)

Well I called four shops in the area of lj70 and no one is open on a Saturday and no one has a way to test the Toyota.. but one of the shops I called is literally across the street and still no help. I would feel much better knowing the compression and an overall general health of the engine before driving nine hours back home... I just hope values will go up if I add a few things!

looks like a 73/74 so not a direct replacement. Crushers on here did a cut down to fit one of these onto a 70. Like I said before i don't believe a hard top was available from Toyota, hopefully those in the know can confirm this.
