Man oh man, I've been having a dickens of a time getting my rear heater installed. I've had the tank and seat in and out 4x's now. The brass tubing has taken a few shots over the years and I've shortened them a few times now. I've tightened down my hose clamps several times and keep getting more leaks.

I've been running 5/8ths" hose. Is this the problem? maybe i need smaller hose, 15-14mm? I'm going to abandon the rear heater for now but want some advice from those who have run them and corrected problems with leakage. Is full soft line the way to go? Can I get brass line to bend and run again, where, how $$$? Is the hard line not worth the effort?

Maybe I should have the coil cooked and cleaned or can I just pressure test it? It seems to smoke when it gets hot (no wiring hooked up), but I can't seem any leakage from the coil unit.

I pulled the hot wire loose a few years ago and can't find the proper place the run another hot wire, so I've got another "rear heater" switch to install. The new (older prob.) switch has three poles coming out of it, how should I wire it? My current heater up front only runs on high so I think I burnt out a resistor (any advice on a cheap and easy replacement resistor?)

Thanks fellas. Pictures are worth a thousand words and I appreciate the help!!

Throw the tubes away and just run 5/8" radiator hose. Been that way on multiple Cruisers going back to my very first. For the wire, look around, it's gotta be there somewhere. If not wire from high side of heater switch if that's how you desire it to operate. Get a multimeter and test the switch to see if therein lies your problem. Measure the resistance across the resistor to diagnose. Infinite resistance =junk.

The heater hose in the engine compartment is 5/8"ID on my '78. The heater hose to the rear heater is 1/2"ID. Just sayin.

Ding ding!

Well this might be the problem huh? ding ding!! new hose is in order.

110, 111. Whatever it takes.

Resistor

Mouser Electronics #71-HL50-06z-Value 1.0 - 1.0k

This is a bit longer than the stock resistor so you'll need to fab something up, but it's pretty easy. I installed this on my rig a few weeks ago and it works great.

do you meen the rear heater core?

you are probably seaping inside ...the seam could be alil seperated ...i had to resolder one just recently.

It was smoking like that for over a year before it let go
