I am thinking about buying a California Cruiser

I live in Tennessee

With the high humidity, will this be a problem in climate change ?

Cars work independently of climate and there would be no change. I don't understand what you are asking...?

Found a 87 fj

super clean 3500.00

As far as driving it back ...

How do I do it legally ??

If you buy it, is it already registered? If so you are good until its time to renew. TN doesn't have anywhere near the registration issues that CA has so you are good there. If its a CA vehicle then you more than likely will be ok with rust depending on where it spent its life. Once you get it, rust proof it first thing.

It is a private owner not a dealer.

I doubt the owner is going to let me drive on his tags.

I am trying to find a way to drive it back

mail the tag back to the owner when you get home? borrow a tag off one of yours. i believe the tag belongs to the car 1st and then 2nd to the prior owners gayrage wall. any one willing to sell the car and wants money will work with you, i would hope. as far as rust don't drive around in the snow with lots of salt on the roads, keep the mud flaps on and you should be fine.

you may have to acquire a temp transit tag at the good ole DMV of California with your signed over title and signed bill of sale (with stated purchase price)

Furthermore, you may have to have proof of insurance to get the temp transit tag

Give me his number, I'll go "check it out" for:flipoff2:

In ca the plate and therefore tags stay with the vehicle
as far as insurance, it's pretty cheap to have a 60 added to your policy. Mine is $20 a month

Make sure your insurance covers your new vehicle and get a bill of sale from the former owner, and drive home..... tag or no tag. I drove a car from Houston, TX to AL . You have a grace period in order to acquire new vehicle tags. Its not expected you will have the tags or be able to acquire tags the first day or week you own the new vehicle.

In Kalifornia, the Plates stay with the 60 now matter what! Have bill of sale and proof of insurance. That usually protects you for about a month in most states! Insurance is the key and bill of sale (copy of signed off title Helps too).

I believe Insurance protects your new vehicle for 60 days, they are required to by law.....Your at Gordon...haha sucks to be you, I just came from there 6 months ago, my sister will be there in a couple months for a reclass....I'll give you here number, she just came back from Iraq, and whatever vehicle she buys she is going to give me. Maybe you can point her to a really nice FJ40:flipoff2:

Not sure what the big deal is here......hand the guy the cash, both keep a signed copy of the bill of sale and drive it home.

Different insurance companies have different policies on coverage of "new" vehicles: call your agent & find out. As has been said many times before, the seller doesn't have a choice on giving you the tags in CA - he has to.

Be prepared to be stopped by authorities on your journey & you won't be surprised. Complete documentation will save you a great deal of hassle. I had this happen in college: the trooper used the old story "bank just got robbed & you fit the description". Right! Green Ford station wagon delivery with a yellow racing stripe across the hood @ 3AM in Des Moines, IA. Handed him the PO's NJ registration (friend of mine) & the bill of sale. He let us go.

BTW since most states collect sales tax on transactions between private parties (& out of state in your situation), I always prepare two bills of sale: one for the full price & one for $500 (or less) for the tax nazis.

In CA all the seller does is submit a release of liability. That clears the PO of any hijinix you will do.
