hi Hans,
thanks for the pics and it looks like you've got yourself a pretty tidy BJ! Well Done!
In regards to your starting woes.. heres somethings you might want to check:
1) being a diesel it will need to "glow". this means on some, turning the key to the "on" position for 5-10secs (you might hear some relay's click during this time).. this will heat up the glow plugs ready to start.
I have had people flatten my battery because they didnt do this and come back to pick up my 40 to find them trying to jump start it.. patince. Some have what is called a "wilson" switch (search in the diesel section) which allows you to press a button instead of relying on the timer/relays when starting.
2) make sure your cables and terminals are GOOD AND TIGHT! The issue you have of "Clicks" when starting, I have seen before when my battery has been flat. IF you are unsure of the battery, make the place you bought it do a "AMPS TEST". I had a battery that would hold 12v but didnt have the amps to start the 40. Being a new battery you'd assume this is ok.
Check connectors on the battery and to the starter. Check your Earths from the battery and from the engine to the chassis exist and are good.
Check the cable to the starter is all secured. Ensure battery terminals are TIGHT! (ive had issues and tightend up the terminal on the battery 1/2 turn and it fixed it)
3) check the EDIC is getting power. The EDIC is a motor that is actuated when you start and turn off the car. It povides fuel to the injector pump. If this motor isn't working then when you crank, there is no fuel to ignite. You will someone to start the 40 for you for this. You stand next to the snorkle and look under the pipe to the intake, about halfway down the block is the edic, it has an arm (lenght of rod) to the injector pump. When the car is started and cranking, this arm should move (it should move to the rear of the engine bay)..
If there is no movement here then your engine is not getting fuel.
4) Glow plug relays and fusible links. When you "GLOW" your car is sends about 7v to the glow plugs. If the glow plug relays don't do their job, then the glow plugs wont work, and you can crank the engine over but it wont catch. These glow plug relays are usually connected to the battery with Fusible links, these are bits of wires that can fry if they get too much current (safety feature). IF these fusible links are blown, then the relay wont run, meaning you wont glow, meaning you wont start. They usually hang off the +ve terminal on the battery and look like a wire with a cloth sheath.
with all the wiring for the stereo, i'd get a multimeter and start figuring out what goes where.. ih8mud and manuals are a good place to start.
Prior to owning my 40 i had no mechanical experience.. now I can change heaps of stuff over.. read read read and read more!.. check for the appropriate manual in either the 40 section or the diesel section. I know i have pdf manuals for the 3B and a matching wiring diagram.
Also I would recommend you get MAx Ellery Workshop Manual for the 3B (also has 2H). this is invaluable and should be kept in the 40 at all times!!
If you need any other help with this I'd be more than happy to help and have pm'd you my mobile #.
Good luck and congrat!!
Andrew

I got my manual from here:
Drysdale Auto Books On-line Store - Automotive Books, Manuals, Magazines, Videos, and more ... Cars, Motocycles, Trucks, Tractors but notice they dont have the manual for the 3b on their online store, maybe worth a call to get it in. (search for max ellery landcruiser)
Also.. now you've got your BJ42.. time to sign up to PHAT42!!! (
