Will be taking delivery of my new (to me) 2014 LX 570 shortly. Super excited, as I have been eying these trucks and waiting for the one with the right color combo, options, service records, and pricing to appear.

Looking forward to doing some OEM+ mods in short order (3D MAXpider floor mats, BFG K02s as soon as the stock Michelins are toast, and some other touches). Any other low-hanging/cheap/easy OEM+ mods people recommend? Looking forward to learning a lot from the forum.

Located in metro Atlanta, so looking forward to connecting with other local owners for meetups and wheeling. I plan to have her serviced at ToyoTech in Chamblee unless people have other suggestions.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums! It's a fine ride and the possibilities for it are endless. From mild to wild.

Stock+ could be many things and tires are a great place to start. Can't go wrong with KO2s. Though I'd encourage you to look around, and this forum is a great resource for tire discussions, as there may be newer and better designs from the last few years, depending on what qualities you're looking for. Either way, a solid 32-33" tires can fit the bill nicely for a mild build. Or go all the way to full fat 35s.

Another cheap (free) upgrade is to do a sensor mod on AHC. That'll enable a level huge clearance. A mild 1" sensor lift will make AHC high almost 4" in lift. Nothing to sneeze at.

That's really all she needs to do even difficult level trails. Maybe toss in a compressor so you can air down.

Checkout my build thread in my sig for a catalog of links to various what I consider OEM+ and OEM++ mods.

Thanks, @TeCKis300!

Funny that you should reply, as I have been digging through the wheel/tire threads and see you have added a lot of value. Appreciate that and seeing your build evolve over the years.

One thing I was curious of after searching is re: a setup with OEM 20” wheels and KO2s in LT295/55R20 123/120R - it seems that perhaps with some .75”-1” spacers this setup does not rub or require any mudflap or fender liner modification - but I have not been able to confirm that.

My goal (for now) is to have the largest diameter tire that also maintains or improves OEM safety and handling characteristics without having to mod anything.

Has anyone run this setup who can confirm whether or not it requires mudflap or fender liner modicarions?

It's a great community and I've learned as much from others before me, so happy to give back.

KO2 295/55R20 spec at 32.8" x 12". Ideally paired with a .75" spacer for easier clearance fitment and optimal scrub radius suspension geometry. Though a 1" can work too.

It may just drop right in, and perhaps just touching on plastics. Should be minimal effort to resolve, or just let it self clearance :)

1) .75" spacer will require less plastic liner clearancing, as there's less tire swing vs the incrementally wider 1" spacer. Your 2014 wheels IIRC won't have pockets to accommodate the studs poking into them. Relatively easily handled by clearancing with a 1/2" drill bit jut where the studs poke. Can bolt the wheels on just enough to leave an impression of where the studs want clearance.

2) 1" spacers should have the wheels drop in. But the tires will swing just a bit more into the plastics. Still easily resolved by re-pinning the liner at the front and perhaps just a touch of re-contouring of the mudflap, if that. Here's some sense of what it'll involve and you'll need less than what represented here as I ran a 33.2" x 12.3" tire.

I’ve heard good things about ACC garage but I have not had work done there. I’ve spoken with them about some future work and would pursue that further if that means anything.

Much appreciated.

I will be sure to document my due diligence and experience with this wheel and tire combo once I burn through the Michelins that are on there now.

Congrats bud.

You do have probably the best looking OE 20" wheel Lexus has put out but don't be shy about ditching those either, going aftermarket will give you a lot more options in fitment and more tire obviously. You can get away with a lot on the LX without touching a thing.

@ACC Toyota ACC garage would be hands down where you need to go for work. They are a busy shop so make sure to get on the calendar. Make sure you know most if not all the parts you want. They’ll get you in do SOLID work and get you back on the road.
My mods for my 2014 are sorta on hold due to product availability. The new Prospeed rack (not out yet but hopefully soon), Slee step sliders and aluminum battery terminals, Trail Tailor hidden winch mount, I’m actually going to Toyo AT3’s close to stock, I don’t plan on doing much more than fire roads, gravel roads etc. we have other rigs for the more aggressive stuff. I’ll also be upgrading my battery to the X2 Power from Batteries Plus.

I suspect that 295/55/20 will be fine without much, if any, massaging of the fender. I had 285/55/20s on my 13 and it easily could have fit something wider and taller. The difference is not great in either direction.

You can always try it and add spacers if needed, but I doubt you will.

Welcome!

If you keep those stock Michelins have a close look at the spare. If it hasn't been used much it may be very dry rotten and not worth relying on. My friend got a 2013 LX last summer and the spare was in truly horrible shape, though all the mold nipples were there as if it had never been used.

Enjoy your 200

@TeCKis300 I am close to pulling trigger on new tires - going with Toyo Open Country AT3 in 305/55R20 LT Load E (go big or go home!) on the stock LX570 wheels (MY 2012-2015), which I believe are 20x8.5" +45mm wheels (slightly different offset from the prior years' stock wheel I think).

The question for you is, what size spacers should I be running for clearance fitment and optimal scrub radius suspension geometry - .75" or 1" ?

Also, any thoughts on these spacers: Wheel Adapters, Wheel Spacers, Hub Rings for your car! | Motorsport Tech - https://www.motorsport-tech.com/bora.html

IIRC, and I'm 99% sure, your wheels are the same +60mm offsets. I would still recommend 1" spacers. .75" may be more correct from a scrub radius perspective but I believe the 2012-2015 wheels didn't have sufficient reliefs in the wheel hub for a .75" spacer that would leave the stud sticking out.

You'll need to mod everything I've done here to make clearance. All pretty easy plastics. Note the link on post #4 that takes you to how to trim and shape some of the plastics.

Thank you, sir!

Based on this thread you are correct on the 60mm offset: What is offset on this rim? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-is-offset-on-this-rim.1238209/

1" spacer it is!

Hey @2014 LEX 570 GA and others, @TeCKis300 looking at you my friend, if you guys have any of the best resources on tire selection by thread I would love to take a look. I'm trying to decide on a 285/60/20. KO2s are topping the list but at over $400 a tire it's a tough pill to swallow. Also looking at Open Country AT3 and Falken Wildpeaks any others that I should really be considering? Nitto Terra Grappler G2 isn't available in that size. I have decided that's the size for me, love the look and the sidewall  .

Meaty tires in 20" get pricy fast. If you drop to a LT275/60R20, the price goes down quite a bit. This was one of the factors for why i went down to a 17" wheel. A 285 series tire in a 17" wheel fitting (even at same height as whatever 20" tire you are looking at) is anywhere from 20-50% cheaper. Check out a K02 C Load LT285/70R17 - 33" ($265) vs a E Load LT285/60R20 - 33.5" ($425). But if you were to look at the Load D LT275/60R20 - 33" it comes in at $296.

This is pretty true across all brands. Plenty of people run a 275 tire here, so it would be up to you on whether that 10mm is worth $600 (across 5 tires).

Or look at it this way, if you want the 285, $600 goes along way towards some new wheels. In fact, if you include the cost of spacers that you won't need, you will break even on a set AlphaEquipt if they still have any of those closeouts available (appears they do). And next round of tires you will be saving money. That's a story you can even sell to your significant other. Really any wheel <$250 can make sense, so that squeezes in those sweet Icon Vector 5s.

All that to say, i think you hit the nail on the head with the tire choices. I think most will tell you not to bother with the G2. If you are going to get a Nitto, go with the ridge grappler.

Great information here and thank you for taking the time, I have one problem... I love my 2013 20s, they look so darn good. But there are always tradeoffs, I should take a more serious look.

Pretty much all of this. At that size, you will pay a premium for 20", and there are fewer options.

Tires are a pretty personal choice. Nothing wrong with KO2s and they've been arguably a benchmark tire.

That said, there's a number of reasons I've picked other tires, for overall broader capability (without giving up any offroad performance). Additional priorities that I have for a great AT tire include on-road handling and NVH, rain and wet weather, and winter / snow performance. That's where the new bread from my research makes large strides. If I were wanting a tire on the more aggressive end of the AT tire spectrum, I'd lean toward the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Middling to aggressive, Toyo AT3s. There's newer tires still that I haven't had experience with. NTG G2s should be your last choice as they're probably the oldest design of the bunch, pushing 10 yrs now.

Regarding 20" wheels / tires. If I'm being honest, my car is still 95% on-road. Towing on the heavier end. There's stability and handling advantages to running a larger wheel, without as many trades when pushing overall diameter to 34+ inches. Sure, biasing to rock crawler should prioritize 17s or 18s, but there's trades as even my larger 20s with 35s, has enough sidewall that cornering and handling on-road is not as sharp. While offering plenty of sidewall to air down and get busy.

Whatever you prioritize, IMO, wheels and tires are not the place to save money. Where the rubber meats the road so to speak.

Speaking of those sweet Vector 5s. I'm so close to clicking the button on those AlphaEquipt just because they are so cheap. I'd love to have them banked for if i go to 35s for the better offset. Then i could sell my RWs to pay for a good chunk of the 35s...
