I have a friend that may buy a 71 FJ40. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a heater. Just curious if you fellas know if newer model heaters will work in the older model 40s.
Yes they will, you just need to get the plenum that matches the heater. The plastic plenum fits like '75 and up and the metal/rubber one fits '74 and older. If you are looking for a heater, I have the older style that I've completely disassembled, blasted, primed and painted, replaced all gaskets and had the core boiled and pressure tested to 12lbs. Email me direct if you are interested, I want $70 + shipping, but it is cherry. You would need the metal plenum, they're cheep and abundant, and the blower motor/housing.

'74 is the year they changed, IIRC. The heater on a 71 is different from the '74 up. I think it may still work though, not sure, they aren't very different.
