So my headlights dont work anymore. The only thing I can figure is that when I patched my core support by welding some new metal in that I killed my lights. Did the welding kill the lights? They worked fine before I took my core support off.
Most likely you melted some wiring. Did you fix it on the truck or completely remove it.
If you removed it I would check the ground wire first if both headlights are out. Make sure all your connectors are connected too. Most likely its somthing simple.
Well, what do you mean by 'checked the connections' first of all.
Is there 12v to the headlight socket, or to the fuses, or to where?
Start at the headlights and work you way back through each possibility. Do it systematically, and don't overlook anything. Is the ground strap from the body to the engine in place?
Unless you were using HF TIG you did nothing but perhaps overheat somfin'. Even then, HF TIG rarely causes any damage. Heck, my neighbor's been welding HF TIG on his trucks (SA200 tweaked) for over 25 years with no problems.
BTW: unplugging your battery does NOT save your ECU either. Just makes certain that the current doesnt go through the battery (can cause it to explode). I've been welding HF GTAW with all 4 of my rigs close by with no adverse issues.
Still nothing, I guess I am just going to buy new lights. Whats the recommendation? I wanted round eyes but they are on backorder until September. So silverstars?

I had silverstars (inserts) on my other car and replaced them several times due to them burning out. The light was nice but they just didn't last. I replaced them with some napa knock-offs that are almost as bright but have lasted longer than all the silverstar sets that burned out. I'm happy with them (napa's).

Hella H-4's Love them. Plug up the hole at the bottom of them though water splashes up inside of them. You have one hell of a time trying to clean the backing mirrors, and possibly a bulb blowout in which case this has happened to me.
I have a 1990 FJ62 and have a somewhat similar light question and figured that I would post it here. When I have the headlights on normal beam, one of the inside lights doesn't work and when I have it on high beam, the opposite inside light doesn't work but the non-low beam light does. My temporary fix it to unplug the non-working inside light and run around with high beams with two working lights.
To compound the problem, I can turn the screws holding in the lights because of corrosion and rust. It looks like replacing the headlight will require replacing the light holder which is going to cost some extra. Is the light holder a standard part that a dealer carries?
Any suggestions are appreciated. I am taking it to my local mechanic tomorrow for other, minor issues, but it is always good to have some recommendations going in the door.
