A mate and his very tidy ‘67 FJ45 was en route from central NSW to the Mr. Landcruiser early LandCruiser show in Brisbane, Qld when his temp started climbing, big time. He babied it for a few hundred km and now is mid way through the repair. I’m here for a few hours while I can. Thought I’d throw to the experts for any feedback on the condition of the block and head. Hard to do visually, but maybe we can glean something.

Needs to be magma fluxed or dye tested. The old heads are prone to cracking

Hey mate! Where have you been!! Clean up the surfaces, get a straight edge, make sure things are not warped and use a toyota headgasket! These are tractors, have done bare minimum on theses engines and they keep on running!! You could bush fix this on the side of the road!!!

Cheers!

Hey mate!

I had to sell my 45 to keep funding the film so have just been lurking. Good news coming on that front!

How are you mate?

Late last night my buddy found what he thinks are several old crack repairs in this head. Someone that came to the show gifted him a good spare, but until it’s fitted up the jury’s out on it it’ll work.

Are all F145 heads the same? I expect not.

Damn, I gave away all the runnning gear from my '72 a week ago! Good to see you on the weekend, looking forward to film news!
Thanks sneak, I'll aim for more time next time!
Someone can contradict me here, but I would guess that all F145 heads are the same. They are different than F135 heads for sure and have different ways of oiling the valvetrain than F155 and 2F heads.
Thanks very much. I had to catch a plane but the lad has just called me from his home, 1500km from where he swapped the head. All is well I assume!
