HDJ81's with 7 passenger capacity?

Hi, I've been checking out the options for importing a cruiser from japan.

I'd like to have 7 passanger capacity like the FJ's in NA, but finding many of the 80 series from japan don't have them. Is this just a rare option to find, or were they not offered?

If 7 pax option was not offered in JDM, then is it possible to retrofit the rear set of seats from a NA FJ into the HDJ81?

i have seen some gasser from Japan that had the 7 pasenger capacity but no diesel 81s.
you can retro fit the seats from a FJ into them. i do not think it is a direct bolt up but can be done...

I have been looking in EU for an HDJ80 and it seems that the 7 pas option became available in late 1991 models.

You have to retrofit them since they were not offered in JP. I've done it. Not *too* much work...

Find a spare set of seats. Get the wheelwell mounts cut from a US spec scrapper. Drill some holes and cut some gaps in the floor. Bolt up the bottom clips. Weld the seat mounts onto your wheelwells. Find some seatbelts from a scrapper. Weld nuts to a couple plates, and weld the plates onto the D posts for the seatbelts. Attach seatbelts. You are done....

The biggest PITA is getting eveything aligned properly. Screw that up and the seats wont clip onto the bottom clips. I made oversize holes and wiggled the clips around until eveything clicked.

My 1990 LJ78 had room (seating) for 7.. Which is a smaller truck than the 80.
I wonder why they (Toyota) would not put the extra seating in the same year 80??
Any way I have removed the rear most seats from my truck bagged them and put them away. This gives me room to carry some gear etc.

In the UK as far as I am aware, the 80 Series VX was always 7 seats, only 5 seat ones we see are JDM imports. As has been said I am pretty sure only the Gas FJ81 and FZJ81 had 7 seat option on the JDM models

Here in Panamá only VX thru 90 to 92 have 3 seats row .. and from 92 most of them ( GX and VX ) come with 3rd seat row.

In Guatemala I've seen '80's with rear jump seats ala FJ40 style.

I've seen them in Japan with the 3rd row, but only a few!! they're ou t there... but not many!!!
