I was doing some searching of old threads today, and came across a reference to a "snow version", which I'd seen before. My truck does not have the stickers for this, but does have heated seats, and rad blind. I saw mention of a fuel heater, which was new to me. Does anyone have any info on this, how to tell if my truck is equipped, etc? What other things are typically included in the "snow version"?

I think it's also referred to as a winter package, but as far as I know it's just as you mentioned above... The fuel heater is on the same assembly as the fuel primer bulb. My truck does not have it but there are 2 wiring harnesses going to the fuel filter... One for the water light on your dash and the other for the heater IIRC.

I have also heard someone mentioning a bigger heater core but it was in a for sale ad so who knows....

Cheers!

Ah, so it would only work when the ignition was on, not something you can plug in to ease starting like a block heater. Gotcha. I'll have to take a look when I get home tonight.

I have it. Fuel heater is autonomous, can't be plugged in. Heater is incredibly hot, but I don't have a standard one to compare it to.

You'll be able to tell if you have the fuel heater if there are two wires attached to a black device to the side of the priming pump closest to the LHS fender.

So I've had a chance to take a look at my truck, there's 2 wires going to the bottom of the fuel filter (water detector I assume), and 2 wires going to a small greyish/black thing on the top of the primer pump assembly, on the LHS of the pump. Is that what I'm looking for? I'd take a pic but my camera is dead.

The underhood fuse box has a 20a fuse in the slot for the fuel heater, so I'm guessing I have the fuel heater.

When looking into this, I found 2 unused 3-prong connectors in the engine bay, one on either side, about midway towards the front and right up against the fender. Does anyone have any idea what these would have been for?

I have the Winter package as well, same characteristics.

Anyone know how/when the heater is triggered? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it only came on automatically at a certain temp (and below) when the ignition was on.

Mine has the underhood "snow version" sticker but no heated seats or rad blind??

Then your hood may have been replaced at some point (or the sticker was added). You'd definitely have those items.

Do you have the fuel heater?

Where as my HDJ81 has the rad blind, heated seats, rear heater, heated fuel filter, and 24v starter; yet has no snow version sticker.

I believe all the HDJ81's come with the rear heater and 24v starter.

I believe all the HDJ81's come with the rear heater and 24v starter.

I am pretty sure you're correct. And I think all 80 series even fj80 have the rear heater, except in some climates where they have rear AC. (Jealous!)

Its the rad blind, fuel heater and heated seats you have to look for. Funny enough the winter package doesn't come with a block heater. I had to add that one..... :)
