So just FYi guys, any of my ideas or your suggestions are going to be painted with stencils under final clear coat.

Cheers

Block sanding, block sanding and more block sanding. More to do too! 😑

As a paint and body guy myself I don’t envy you right now, but fantastic work it’s gonna look killer

So my mind is 80-90% made up.

I am going with this as one of the colors in the two-tone.

The other color, the lighter one, will also be a “3D” color. These are just colors the head guy at one of my local paint shops came up with. I LIKE them though and they really show off body lines. They also change a bit depending on the light.

He also has a stencil machine so he can make stencils for doing things like the “1HDFT” on the hood or “Four Wheel Drive” down the side accent body lines. 😋

It will get a bit hectic doing sealer, two-tone and stencil paint work and finishing with clear during flash times but we will take advantage of the flash times as much as possible. Backside of panels and inside will get a single stage in one of the two tone base colors. Part of the engine bay will get detailed for some “bling” under the hood. Underside and wheel wells will get a heavy coat of spray-able seam sealer. When it is all done I think I will do some PPF (paint protection film) and also when the bed is done paint the bed and even the RTT to match.

Not only is the Cruiser being built as my personal “rocklander” it is also being built to showcase the company and our “skills”. So ya, doing some cool stuff, bling, ect.

Cheers

I hope that it well still get use to it’s potential 😎 it's looking really nice !!

100%, as soon as it is on the road and broke in, I plan to go run the Rubicon in it. A trail I have never ran.

Definitely a bucket list trail !
You want to hit it mid week if you can and check to make sure there no events running 😎

I would be interested in meeting you when you’re down this way and possibly running the trail with you.
I have run it quite a few times.

I should be heading out for one of the last really good weekends of camping right now. Instead I am still going on paint prep for this thing!

I am sure I am missing out on some real good fishing this weekend but this needs to get done. It’s going to have to spend a bunch of time outside again this winter and I am also buying paint on Monday.

Alrighty, so looking forward to some feedback and opinions from the peanut gallery! 😑😛🤣

I changed it up on my dark color simply because the browns were either too gold or too much copper in them for me. So went to more of a gun metal on that color which I think still looks great.

I can’t decide if I do the dark color on top or bottom of the Cruiser. I had been decided on lighter up top but now am leaning more towards lighter down low. I have decided that my paint (cut) line will be on the upper body line not the lower. On two-tone 80’s it was the lower line but on other Cruisers like 60’s & 70’s series it was the upper body line.

So dark up top like this Prado?

Or dark down low like this 80?

I am leaning towards the low for the lighter color to be different and also to help with pinstripes down the side in the future, lighter colors take scratches better.

For the side accent stripe, again painting this via stencils under the clear coat, I can’t decide which of these two.

Either the stock “Four Wheel Drive” like this.

Or do it like this, less the “v8” so “Toyota Land Cruiser” or even just “Land Cruiser”?

I am still doing something on the hood too in relation to the engine, probably something like “4.2L 1HD-FT turbo diesel” or similar-more simple.

Cheers

Inflatable paint booth purchased and tested.

Tomorrow we are starting on seam sealer and sealer.

Can’t call it on dark top/bottom…but would vote either “TOYOTA” or “LAND CRUISER” down side. Not a lot of real estate to play with, and while a purist will appreciate “FOUR WHEEL DRIVE”, the casual observer assumes that it’s 4x4, but has no idea it’s a Toyota or a Land Cruiser.
