@clrussell wait, does this suck?

Honest question: should I post part numbers and more tech or just tell a story? I feel like the balance should be somewhere in the middle. Worried that posting too many part numbers is overwhelming. So much of this build is the same as the first, I don’t want to be overly redundant.

Frame mounts for the double cab:

We used the same premise that the middle cab mount for the 80 frame would line everything up for and aft. There are three cab mounts on a single cab, and the double just adds a fourth at the rear.

The middle cab mount, essentially at the B pillar level, was about 46 inches of width instead of 45 on the single cab 79. I bought a whole new set of OEM 79 series rubber isolators and mounting hardware, and we were able to coax the bolts into place with just a tiny bit of angulation.

The front cab mount is from a VDJ79 and readily available. Everything lined up just putting the bolt hole about 1 inch to the middle. We just drilled a new hole in the foot well, bolted it up and it fit well.

The fourth cab mount in the rear required a little more massaging. Bill assures me that it won’t fall apart. Still needs to be finish welded.

Honestly I love the tech and the story. The part numbers are super helpful if someone goes the same route..

Keep on keeping on, I’m here for the show 🍿

I look back at my other builds all the time for part numbers.

So:

front crossmember mounts 51701-60070 x2
right front cab mount 51703-60090
left front cab mount 51704-60080
right rear cab mount 51707-60120
left rear cab mount 51705-60080

Hello,

Part numbers and tech provide background for the story.

Your truck builds have a uniqueness of their own, and it is wise to document them properly.

On the other hand, we all love the parts porn.

Keep up the good work.

Just mocked up, but very exciting nonetheless.

I'm putting my order in for one of these right now before anyone else calls dibs
Just let me know when it's ready buddy 😉

@bj70bc you might be third or fifth in line!

Bill got 4 bed mounts fabricated before he had to go. We had to relieve the front horizontal rib on the bed to clear the rear shock tower.

I like this thing a lot.

Over the weekend @AlbertoSD and @Spallet swapped transmissions in one of @Spallet’s trucks using my shop. Today @Fern1109 joined then as we pulled the FTE out of the donor chassis, cleaned up the car barn and got both 79’s inside.

Amazing what you can do with a forklift on a rainy day.

A forklift is like having 10 body builders sitting around ready to help on a whim of a switch.

Some days, big moves. Some days, small.

New visors with correct hardware.

One more pice of the puzzle: h15x bellhousing arrived.

@bj70bc thanks for the kind words, but this facility has only produced one running Land Cruiser so far. Assembly line and workers are inefficient.
