Howdy folks...

So I did the Pin7 mod and used my Hazard switch for now until I dig up the scratch to buy the CDL switch. The problem, of course (hindsight,) is that I lost my turn signals. I assume I need to either terminate the hazard or put in some sort of jumper to pass the signal through.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get my signals and my Hazard/CDL switch to work together?

By the way... this mod is awesome. I love having this much control over my rig.

Thanks

You use your turn signals a whole lot more than the center diff. Put it back where it belongs and move it to the lock harness if you go on a trail run where you are not signaling turns...

Uhhh yeah Dan. Thanks for treating me like a retard. I DID put it back together so I could have my turn signals. Do you have the information I actually asked about?

IMO tards should be treated like tards. :flipoff2:

pull out the multimeter and figure out what needs to be jumped...

Thanks for the help guys. Always nice to be a part of a helpful community.

Bean,

In order to get your hazard and CDL switch to work together you should install a hazard switch in the hazard harness and a CDL switch in the CDL harness. An alternative would be to get another hazard switch at a junk yard and use it for the CDL switch but then you will have 2 switches that look the same unless you relabel. I cannot help with the relabelling.

HTH.

Bean
Cdan is the best person on this list to piss off . Hes most likely to have the switch your looking for when you get a few $ and also be the cheapest :whoops:

As a new poster on the list and not knowing your abilities Cdan is just trying to help. There are many on this list from Master techs, shop owners , can fix anything , to some who didnt know how to open the hood when they started here .

Just about everyone on this list will help out and good people (just stay away from Junk  ) hes scarred me for life :D

Welcome aboard
Now for the info you were looking for
You need to put a jumper in the hazard plug from the green /white wire to the green red wire pins 10 and 7 you can use your plug with the yellow jumper to do this but you need to make sure the jumps in the right spot
HTH some

You're right Ken. I will attempt to rectify.

Listen up Bean!

The guy that you are accusing of treating you like a retard is the same guy that shared and documented the "Pin-7 Mod" with the 80 series community for the first time about 3 years ago. Dan's response was a lot nicer than many you would get from others, including me.

If you want to be part of this "helpful community" then you shouldn't be slamming those that are giving you the benefit of their technical knowledge and their assistance with your specific problem.

:flipoff2:

Thanks Koffer. That's what I needed to know.

Also, thanks for the advice about the board. I know CDan is the most knowledgeable person on this board and have read a good majorityof his posts. I just hoped that when the great CDan responded to me it would be a bit more like his other posts.

Sorry to offend, but I have trouble holding my tongue.

Well said Koffer and Beowolf!

Crusier Dan is one of the pillars of Mud (Don't get a bigger head Dan) and you should be GRATEFUL for any response.

Giving everyone an hour to help with YOUR problem, and then making your sarcasitc comment is not going to earn you points around here. You have to be a moderator and live in New Jersey to be able to do that.

edit: just fixed typos. Woody- we need a spell checker!

You are most welcome. By the way, you did not state that you had put the switch back where it belongs, did you. And yes, I do have the information.

I do not need to pounce on you as others have done an admirable job for me.

I will now state the obvious:

Since the hazard switch functions in the same manner as the CDL switch, there is a SLIGHT chance that the existing CDL jumper plug will short pin 7 and pin 10 if it were plugged into the hazard socket in the same manner that it does when it is plugged into the CDL socket. Pin 7 and pin 10 in the hazard swith are bridged when the swith is open or "off".

Enjoy your new "free" information and do temper your remarks if you please.

Perhaps Dan needs to come with a new pricing level.... tard shopper pricing.

Does seem wierd to do the pin7 mod before getting the switch properly rigged. Not sure how that's gonna work with pin7 pulled and the CDL controller by the low range shifter.

Bean - another thing you'll notice is that there is a raal strong tendency to "do things right" around here, even having a mis-labeled switch would be considered a "hack". Play nice and hang around a bit to get a feel of who's who on here. I've seen some group hugs lately so there's hope yet.

Well now I am confused again. I did have a switch in place when doing the Pin 7 mod. Everything worked great except the turn signals. So if Riley says I shouldn't do the Pin 7 mod without a switch attached and I follow CDan's advice to keep swapping the switch back and forth from Hazard to CDL do I have to re-enable Pin 7?

That depends on what you want to end up with. If you were to put the hazard swith in the CDL spot and put the jumper in the hazard spot, you will have working turn signals but will not be able to turn the flashers on if needed.

If you put the hazard back where it goes and put the jumper back in the CDL plug, with pin 7 disconnected, the center diff will not lock when shifted to low but it will shift in the low-range pattern.

If you lock it and then pull the switch it will stay locked until you either put the jumper back in or the switch.

You can aquire a CDL switch for about 58 bucks.

Do it right. Sell some plasma and buy a freakin CDL switch.

I can understand the desire for some creative engineering here.
Bought OEM one myself (at a good price, relatively speaking, from a good source, you know him...) but it sure burned me to pay $50+ buckos for a small electrical switch...

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up running the hazard switch for the CDL with the terminator on the hazard connector. All I had to do was cut out a channel block on the connector to make it fit. Worked perfectly.

After everything I simply took all of your advice and picked up the CDL switch. I kind of like having a switch in my truck that confuses most people. "what's that weird button do?"

Thanks again.
