Have I used the wrong throw out bearing with my 350/SM465 combination? (1 Viewer)

I have installed a clutch kit that I got from Advance Adapters and it will not disengage. It is installed in my 68 FJ40 with the SBC 350/SM465 conversion. That engine/transmission combination has been in the vehicle for decades. For some reason, I decided to switch from a LUK clutch/steel clutch fork to the cast iron fork/low profile Center Force clutch sold by AA. I have upgraded the clutch hydraulics from the early version that was used in the 60s era trucks to the one used in the mid 70s. That did not really help with the clutch operation. I have just noticed that the throw out bearing that I got from AA was described as the one to use with the SBC engine and Toyota 4 Speed transmission.......That is not what I have. Could that be the reason that the clutch is not working correctly? There is also not much space to available to adjust the bearing out away from the pressure plate. I asked AA about that and have not received any response. If that is my problem, which bearing should I have used? Thanks!!

I think for your setup 350/sm465 you should be using a stk GM bellhousing and GM clutch parts, with the low profile PP. No Toyota parts, except maybe the slave cylnder. I would think all the parts should for a stk GM truck from the mid 70's and can be purchase from any auto parts store. Basically gm used a long or short throw out bearing. On my 350/SM420 I did adapt the 40's slave cylinder, along with the GM bellhousing, clutch, PP and GM 420 clutch fork with I think the short throw out bearing.

The AA conversion parts would be between the trans and tcase.

Thanks for the response! Many years ago, when I first installed the 350/SM465 combo, I had used the AA adapter between the transmission and the transfer case. I also used the stock GM bellhousing for that transmission, which if I remember right is a different one than that used with the 420. I did purchase the clutch kit from AA.... Thanks for providing me with the info on how the GM throw out bearings are described. I did not know that they were called short or long throw.
