Has anyone successfully redone a 16+ steering wheel? Having peeling issues. (1 Viewer)

Hi all! My biggest gripe with my 19 is the steering wheel looks and feels like sh*t! It peels so badly and I’m also really careful too. I’ve seen others here have the same issues.

Is a shop (or me) able to take the old leather off, and replace with something better? I still want to wood grain and not have a thick wheel so I don’t want to put a cover over it.

Oh wow, interesting. That place is about 2 hours for me maybe I wouldn't have to take the wheel apart.

I'm wondering as well— how did yours specifically turn out?

I haven’t needed to do mine yet. I just keep track of useful threads related to my ‘17 that might help someday.

Any decent upholstery shop should be able to do this. So far the wheel on my ’18 is fine. I wouldn’t mind a thicker wheel but the companies in China that do it can’t make it work with the heater element. I love the heated steering wheel function and don’t want to lose that

We had this issue on our 2016, it drives me insane that Toyota never stepped up to acknowledge the issue as a recall as they did in other markets. That said, we chose a different option, I ordered a PVS steering wheel from Australia and have been thrilled with it, the fit and finish is EXCELLENT (see below). I liked that it does away with the hard faux wood trim, which I was never a big fan of.

Also, if anyone wants *another* core wheel, we still have ours, happy to contribute it to the cause, please DM me. You pay shipping!

It does NOT. Good question, forgot to clarify that. I live in Central TX so that wasn't high on the list of features, I don't think I've ever used the function.
