I'm looking into the purchase but am wondering what things I can do to improve the miles per gallon aspect ? if it is even possible ?
Thinking K&N is not the answer
Large tires will hinder milage.
Aluminum rims ?
oil additive to oil change ?
Sorry I'm spoiled by the Cruiser diesel I'm driving but just doesn't have the pull power!

Your driving will probably influence it more than anything you can buy. I was getting 16 out of my lifted Tundra with 34" tires in mixed driving. Before I lifted it I got close to 20 on a trip to moab (much of the time going 65). Above 65 my mileage would drop. Same is true for towing. Below 65 I can get 11-12 towing, at 75 8-9. On long trips I usually decide my 15% savings in time driving is worth the 20% more in gas and I let the big dog eat.

Only way I've heard to get better mpg in a Tundra is to keep your foot out of it. I get around 13mpg typically (3.5" lift and 35s) but when I took a trip to Colorado with around 800lbs of gear I was averaging 15-16mpg cruising 70-75 most of the time. I do have a slightly modified intake with a high flow filter, don't think it helps much but gives me a little peace of mind.

When I was on stock size tires, I would average 15.5 gallon in mixed driving. Highway trips I could get 18.

After a leveling lift and 35" tires I average 12-13 mixed, I know my odo is off 5% now so have to take that in account.

My grip is the small gas tank when I'm pulling, I have to fill up after 150 miles, its driving me nuts.

After using marvel mystry oil for a month I have gotten an extra 2 mpg. I am using it in the crankcase as per directions and in my gas tank.... It also stopped my oil consumption issue... Old products are still the best

towing my 80 this past weekend with my '13 tundra I was getting 5.8mpg. The speedo is 7% off, so 6.2mpg or so.

I hope by changing the original spark plugs with 88k miles on them and maybe a throttle body cleaning I will be back up to the normal 9 towing.

Geez, what's the setup on your Tundra? Worst I've ever gotten towing was about 8mpg

Like everyone else has said, definitely has the most to do with your driving style. Sometimes it's really hard to resist hearing that 5.7 roar with a little extra skinny pedal haha. When I added dual flowmaster mufflers I noticed my highway mileage increase from around 16mpg to 17-17.5, and I've heard of other people getting similar results with aftermarket exhaust systems. I had aftermarket 18x9 wheels and 33" Cooper mud tires too. However, after I threw on the flows I really enjoyed hearing that aggressive tone and it was hard to not give it a little extra gas driving around town and my city mileage dropped to around 11...
