Has anyone here gone to a LC250 from a 5th Gen 4Runner?

I am strongly considering re-entering the market for a new vehicle after just purchasing my "dream" 200 Series HE a couple months ago. Reason being is that I just got a place under contract on a off market listing in Durango and will be emptying my piggy bank on a down payment. I don't really want to sell the 200 but I also like having money in the bank and a quick way to replenish those reserves would be to sell the 200. (It is paid off, title in hand)

My thoughts were to either trade it on a 5th Gen 4Runner or a LC 250 and pocket the difference. I had a 5th Gen 4R prior to the 200 so I know what it is and what it isn't.
I have yet to drive a 250 but figure if I could take one for a spin and ended up liking it that I would try and work a deal to get one down down as close to $60k as possible. Something like LC trim without any extra packages. I can find 4R TRD OR trims in the high $40's all day around here but am just wondering if anyone went from one straight to a 250 and if so what did you think about the change? Worth it or nah?

Maybe I should just get off Mud and get back to work, close some deals, and keep my 200. 😂

The 250 is a HUGE upgrade over the 5th gen 4Runner in practically all aspects (night and day difference), except for the unknown reliability of the 250, of which, the 250 is proving to be a reliable platform so far, but who knows if it will end up that way with more age/miles.

The 200 in some ways are better than the 250, and the 250 are in some ways better than 200, just depends on what you like.

These were pretty much my same assumptions on paper. Just wanted to hear from others with firsthand experience.

Coming from multiple 5th gen 4Runners, limited, TRD Offroad, and TRD PRO the LC250 is absolutely more refined in alot of ways but in the back of my mind I worry about the long term reliability. More moving parts equals more issues, its just a matter of how many.

I moved from a 5th gen that I drove for the past 10 years, so far the 250 is a massive step up in refinement and creature comforts. The 250 can drive down the highway without hunting for the right gear at every slight incline and the cruise control actually holds the speed I set instead of a +/- 7 mph range. I do have concerns about the size of the fuel tank, I’m interested to see what kind of range I can get when towing.

Traded in my 2020 TRD Pro for an LC Premium and as everyone says, its a night and day difference. The LC makes the 4Runner feel like an old dinosaur.. loud, not super comfy, very little modern tech etc. No regrets at all in the upgrade! If anything, the LC feels almost too nice compared to what Im use to.

What data do you have to show it’s proven to be reliable? It’s like 6 months old.

The fact that it hasn’t had any problems so far in real world use? Furthermore, I haven’t seen any posts with problems so far.

The transmission issues appear to be effecting the Mexican built tacomas, but the Japanese LC appears to have proper QC checks in place to not have junk transmissions.

The people most excited about the 250 are 5th gen runner owners. Makes sense as it is an upgrade for them

The same cannot be said for the 200 owners, to the OP point. I would have to be pretty desperate for cash to sell a paid off LC200HE for a new PRADO (not LC).
Yep.

I have a 5th gen 4 Runner TRD PRO and a 2009 GX470, and share same sentiments as those above. From the 4Runner it is a tremendous step-up and like MGordo says above, "almost too nice" compared to that 4Runner. As for the Lexus GX, the V8 is nice but the LC is right there and maybe superior in power when needed. The LC is refined inside but maintains an off-road feel which I find the GX is missing. Overall really loving my LC more than any vehicle I have owned. Albeit only 6 days in.

There are a couple buyback already. One is dumb engine noise issue that are on all direct injected engine. I heard a few hybrid malfunction that might be related to transmission.

I am going to wait till next year.

Only one side of the coin, but I bought a 5th gen and sold it 5 months later. There was nothing I liked about it other than forecasted reliability.

I test drove one, Offroad spec; I was surprised by how much I disliked it.

I have a 2020 5th Gen ORP and a 2024 LC.. I still love my T4R but the LC is just a lot better for daily driving, better comfort, and a lot more fun overall.

I went a test drove one today just to reacquaint myself and man that V6 is such a dog. I still may end up getting another one, only because it would eventually end up at my place in CO. Feel like parking a 200 or something else nicer up there for long periods of time without being driven would be a waste.

I feel the non-hybrid 6th gen 4runner may be a better base to build on rather than the LC. At least for those owners willing to accept a slow vehicle.
