Still trying to solve the #6 cyl misfire in my 80 series. Today i was pushing/pulling the injector wires/connector while truck was idling and I could make it misfire more, or less, depending on what I was doing. I removed the connector and bent the metal contacts on the injector just a wee bit, plugged it back on and the misfire while driving is definitely better - though not entirely absent. It is better than it has been in weeks. I'm thinking it is either the connector, or the injector. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

You can get a test light that will plug into the loom & the light will flash if it reading a pulse or swap no 6 injector with no 5 & see if the miss moves cylinders .

I can not speak for the OEM six but I have replaced the connector on a Vortec. IT had a slight crack in it and produced a mis fire.

Its about $35 for a refurb injector on Rock Auto.
If you remove it just replace it.

Fuel Rail bolts aren't fun. A flex gear rachet might make it much easier.
Put a Dab of RTV on Plastic Fuel rail stands to ease assembly.
Dip injectors gaskets in gas before inserting in fuel rail.

Do not dip the injectors in gas before installing them.

Use a light oil on the o-rings to keep from tearing/cutting them.

Had a similar problem on the #5 cylinder on a rig last fall. Turned out to be damaged wiring harness between the injector and the area where the EGR pipe likes to melt the wires. Repaired wires and now it runs fine. John

The injector O-rings seal out Gas so it will not hurt them and any excess will evaporate.
Be careful what oil you use or it may compromise O-ring.
I also used dielectric on the electrical connector end.
Injector Rx sent along a tube of Super Lube.

Anyone using Dow Corning 55 O-ring grease on injector O-rings?

Those wire are so hard to get to and so stiff, I don't know how you managed to get in there to do it. My misfire only shows at relatively low RPM's. If I jump on the gas, it runs fine. Misfire is also not noticeable until temp gets north of 140.

I have replaced the connector housings on a few trucks. The locking tap will snap and no longer latch onto the injector. I've also seen the latch tab on the injector break off

If it's the housing they can be replaced for around 6.00 a piece. If the fault is with the injector then a replacement is required.

could definitely be the wiring harness that is degraded by the EGR. when you are moving the connector around, you are also moving the wire around and making/breaking the connection in the jacket momentarily. push on the wire further away from the connector to rule out the wire.

Toyota is telling me the only way to get the plug housing is to buy the entire engine harness. Can you direct me to where I can get just the plug housing?

It's 90980-11153 that is just the shell, good for a broken latch, the pigtail is better if there is a wire issue.

The OEM repair splice wire part number is 82998-12790 x2.

I have a broken connector clip. A zip tie is holding it together quite well for past couple years. It should get you by till you can fix it.

Wife's Camry has a broken connector clip that goes into the transmission. Have to take apart the trans to replace it. A little RVT sealant in the locking clip part of the connector holds it tight. I can stick a prick in there and take it a part with no problems.

They not permanent fixes (except from me) but they will get you by for a little while if you are in a pinch, lull, down on your luck, unemployed, on reduced hours, broke, poor, homeless, living in motel, living on the road in company housing, dont have a place to work on your vehicle or other.

Spliced in the new wires and plug on #6 injector. Stopped getting the P0306 code! Was still getting an occasional misfire. Replaced the plug wires and all is good. Truck runs great, with a noticeable increase in fuel mileage! Happy Days!
