Has anyone had a oil leak comimg from this area? And if so how did you get it fixed?

I've had this truck for about a month now and we got it with a oil leak. The previous owner seemed to try to fix it with jb weld and it didnt work.

It looks like the oil pump cover seal to me. I just did my seal behind the main pulley / harmonic balancer as well as the oil pump cover seal. It fixed the leaks coming from this area. Texas Know How has a good video on it....check YouTube.

For any oil leak, it's always best to clean/degrease the entire area. Then you can run the engine and observe the source of the leak.

Engine fan will cause oil to move/run to places that make it appear you have a massive leak, when it may just be seeping from one spot.

As per the post above, likely the oil pump cover (or could be coming from above - distributor). Could even be coming from further up (valve cover gasket).

Anyhow, clean first and then inspect.

Looks like the PO likes to do bodgie work, hopefully not a glimpse of future engineering marvels to discover...

cheers,
george.

Literally, everyone that has ever owned a 1FZ-FE.

Known oil leak areas that you should plan on replacing the seals:
Oil Pump Cover Seal
Crankshaft Seal
Distributor O Ring
Valve Cover Gasket (do plug seals and PCV while you have the valve cover off)

Am I missing any of the obvious, habitual offenders?

Err. yeah, tighten the thingy on top of the engine where you add the new oil, usually to replace what has recently leaked out from the bottom of the engine. It's not complicated, I think it's only a 1/4 turn and you don't even need a SST, just your hand...Needless to say, I'm still cleaning up that mess 4 months later after inadvertently deleting that thingy for about 25 miles (YMMV.)

Yup. Clean that engine then inspect. Also makes it nice to work on so you don't come into the house looking like a coal miner when you are done.

This was mine last week. Replacing rad, waterpump, hoses, crank seal, while I was in there. Don't strip those stupid philips heads. With rad out getting the cover screws out was a breeze with an impact drill.

I have to say, I am so jealous of all you peeps that can actually get your crank bolts off.

My crank bolt laughed at my attempted bumping the starter method. 3' breaker bar with 2' of pipe slid over the end did the trick in about 5 seconds.

Did you not notice how sh!tting it was running? If you take the oil fill cap off while running the oil pressure drops like crazy and my truck will hardly run.

Thank you for this sage-like advice. Off to find part numbers, I pick up my 80 this weekend!

I don't think I was being an a$$. You asked a question, I gave you a factual answer then provided you with the known oil leak areas on the 1FZ-FE. This saving you the time of using the search function.

Everyone that has owned a 1FZ-FE has had these areas leak. Not most people, not some people, everyone. Seals wear out and need replacing.

Congrats on the new 80.

Ha. Mine laughed at the bump, the breaker bar, the 1300ft/lbs impact gun, the breaker bar + torque multiplier...and it wasn't a funny ha ha laugh, but an evil Ha Ha HAAAAAA! laugh. I have a whole thread on it here somewhere. Sending her up to Georg/Valley Hybrids next week....

Cough...errr....not, she ran "normal". When I park, and I have a guilty habit of checking her diaper in public, aka looking under the rig at the parking spot and seeing how much oil I've left behind. I can recognize the drip marks like a finger print. On that day, she really :poop: her pants and there was a lot o oil, plus the smell o that smell, which scared me, thought something really let loose...nope just being me being a
