Has anyone built cargo storage solutions for their FJ40?

I live in Colorado and haul a lot of gear for camping in my FJ40. THere is a lot of storage space in the back, but unfortunately, the gear just shifts around when driving. I have been thinking of building or purchasing some storage solutions for the interior of my FJ40,...something with compartments to house tents, snoshoes, tables/chairs, etc.

Has anyone ever designed/built such a solution for the back of their cruiser, or know of any ready-made storage solutions for purchase?

Thanks!
David

There are a few already made options. Tuffy security products makes a decent size security box and swag off-road makes an aluminium braket that secures two action packers.

most everything out there is custom-made. Do a search and you'll find many threads of people talking about this. The 60 and 80 series sections also have lots of threads, and the concepts in many cases cross over to 40s.

As we get closer to finishing our FJ40 build...this is a task that we will be undertaking. Plans for a rear drawer system and MPAC racks for the sides and rear doors are in the works.

We are close to having our center console to the production stages...once we get it fitted to the later model FJ40s, probably sometime in late April.

Take a look at the FJ40 console and also some things that we have done for the FJ Cruiser to give you an idea of what we can do.

I just built a wooden box against the tail gate. The back of it is open so when I open the tailgate I can get to what's in it, but when it's closed stuff can't get jacked as easy (I guess you COULD just smash the wooden box if you wanted what was in there bad enough). I put a padlock on the latch for the tailgate and I keep the tools and spares in the box and then I can pile the camping gear on top and still get the the tools and parts if needed. Works pretty well. It also mounts rear seats made from 1990's camaro back seats.

This is super cool but I think it needs a ball point pen /change / candy holder in that unused area next to the cup holders.

The cup holder is actually designed as a module that will eventually have various options depending on demand. This initial design left that area blank for seat heater switches and power points. Or you could leave it alone for stashing contraband :hhmm:

I have searched for driver seat under seat storage and have not seen any good ideas yet. Does anyone have any good ideas for secure, waterproof (maybe aluminum), and easy access storage to secure guns and other valuables under the drivers seat? I have a 1975 fj40 with standard bucket seat configuration.

Also interested in behind seat storage ( I do not have rear heater). Thanks for any input.

when will the center console be available? Could not find it on the website...may have missed it tho.

confer made good storage boxes for the rear and also rear sides in the bed area

I bought this table. It spans the wheel well very nicely and when I get to my destination and unload, yup, you guessed it, I have a table. Right now I have a plate bolted in the back for my soft top so I can't use it but it works well with the ambi doors. It will be back when I make my tailgate. Also theft deterrent for the stuff underneath.

Before I had two children, I removed one jump seat (1978 FJ40) and made a custom wood box (an enlarged ammo crate) that bolted right where the jump seat went. Done correctly and placed on the driver's side, it won't impair vision much. It can be bolted right where the jump seat was, and can leaves the entire floor clear. I put a toybox lid hold-open device on the lid so that you could open the lid of the box and not have it keep closing on your fingers. Worked great.
