It looks like you are into APRS. Just need a TNC (see below) a cable to the V71A and an android device with bluetooth and you are set!

Yes sir! I have been reading up on all the HAM stuff for longer than I had been studying for the test! My inner nerd has really come on with this stuff. I love the idea of an independant wireless network.
