Hey Halo what you going to do with those bumpers.

my new bumpers? or the old NASTY pipe bumper? new ones are in progress, the old ones are in the trash

Awesome work. A couple of questions -

What guage steel did you use for the floor & wheelwells ?

And could you explain rosette welds a little bit. As far as I can gather you drill a hole through the two pieces of metal you're joining and then weld the hole closed similar to a spot weld.

I've got a tub I'm hoping to rebuild but my skills are lightyears behind yours. I'll be cutting out my wheelwells as well and was contemplating tacking a thicker strip of steel alng the edge and grinding up to the straight edge then removing the strip. If you've cleaned yours up already I'd be interested to know how you did it.

Thanks, Jeremy

so then i was able to get this damn side of the truck cut off....now how do i finish the edge? i was thinking about finding a belt sander in order to make it straight and smooth...any suggestions?

Have you thought about welding 1/4 round rod to the edge? Sweet pics and a hell uva job on saving an old roach!

oh come on fawkers....it aint a roach....she's a beauty! lol
i used 16 guage steel... a little thick, but strong enough to be able to beat the shieat out of it, and it doesnt deform a lot. ill i did for the rosette welds was just like you said. drill a 3/4 inch hole into the new made steel, and weld it to the steel below it. grind it flush if you like...SUPER simple to do.
i was thinking about doin the 1/4 inch rod on it, but im not really worried about it at this exact moment. right now its not keeping me from making the truck move, so its kind on the back burner.... i was also thinking about cutting 1/4 or 1/2 inch lines in it, and bending it in 90 degrees in order to make the lip there again, but thats a lot of work, and the welding the rod on there is a TON of potential to warp the (%*# out of the bed side, IMO...i get impatient on sheetmetal...every time..lol

ok any ideas on what tubing to use for my shackle hangers? i need tubing to fit the OD and the ID of the stock bushings.

You can get bushings with a LOT of different ID/OD's. Look at SOR.com's bushing listing. I would use the tubing that is the easiest/cheapest and works with a bushing listed at SOR.

well i bought the bushings from toyota, but i guess i shouldnt have. i want rubber, not polyurethane....

Put rubber in mine lasted less than a year. Ain't worth the x-tra articulation.

It ain't a roach just handin some out.

HALOGRINDER what about something like the bezel only with a little extra space on the outside of each light then you could add the blinkers to the outside with the angle pointing towards the direction right, left. I don't know just throwing out ideas but not sure how it'll look.

ill look into that....thanks for the idea

ok so i have slacked and i havent done anything on the s***box in a while....so... i decided to cut out my rear disc brake brackets so i can get ready for the gears i ordered from PORC.....i cut them out with my plasma cutter, tacked them together, then ground them flush with themselfs so they were identical. now tomarrow i need to drill and tap the bolt holes.. not too bad for free hand cutting, i think

these are bling bling headlamps i got of Ebay, since mine were broken...they even gave me rice blue headlight bulbs!

Dude! You don't know how motivating your progress has been. I got a '77 rust-bucket a few years ago but I was so down about all the rust I was finding on it that I was begining to wonder if it would be worth all the trouble fixing it up...I'm gonna get back to hackin'/welding metal on mine again real soon!!!

Thanks bro.

Oh yeah, keep up the pics!!!

alrighty.....lets all say HELL YA! i found some bushings out of a jeep wrangler that i lifted, so now i have the bushings for my shackle hangers....and by golly, when i get to the house? i have a little peice of tube that these buggers fit perfectly....im getting aroused by the coolness of that..lol

with my super keen eye, since i have cave man tools at the house, and 35,000 bucks in tools at the shop (sigh) i cut the tubing freehand out with the plasma cutter to the proper length for my exciting new bushings i found

so then i went and found those brackets i made a while back for the shackles,,,and put the tube in the shackles.....and life is good

i love my cruiser, cause it serves so many purposes...a money pit, something to keep the cement from flying away in the garage, and most importantly it can be used as its own work table....this is where im making/fixing everything, right on the back of the bed....how fun... u like my work bench?

ok soo....i got all the stuff for the front end to convert it to disc brakes. from knuckles out, with 4runner 4 piston calipers, along with some longfields. now, the questions at hand are: do i stud the locking hub, like what hendrix motorsports does, to increase the strength so the locking hub doesnt rip off, do i put chevy studs in where the steering arm studs are now? so i replace them with something nifty ( what? ) to keep them from braking (i.e. ARP studs?) or do i just put it together and hope for the best?

The Aisan Hubs already use studs? Do you mean add more dowel pins? If so I say yes, its good insurance (Although I would prefer to blow a hub over a birfield).

I have heard about the Chevy stud option, but I have never seen it in use. I use stock small pattern Knuckles with 4x4 labs high steer and I check the torque prior to each run, no problems yet.

What knuckles are you using?

Dan
