ok whoops! im a little behind on this forum with my build up. so heres the catch up

ok now im thinking 40x12.50x20 inch michelins from John on the board with his rims too.....
just got back into town, and i did a little welding up on it, but thats about it....i also got blue torches front tubular shock mounts and a super cool aluminum radiator from them....so now im going to have to make a front radiator support for it. i was thinking of getting those front tubular fenders from metal tech, and grafting in the front radiator support on it so i dont have the support braces going to the frame, plus i think it will clean up/ open up some space in the front of the rig

ok so i had to remve some rivets off the cruiser, so i brought home my baby....this is one bad mo FO

then i commenced to removing the rear axle, bumper, hangers and misclanious crap

then i found out that the rear driveshaft u joints were so beat to sheit that the cross had beat its self thru the cap, and into the yolk....heres hoping i can save it....another fun thing i found was the pinion nut was loose on the rear axle, causing it to trash the pinion....looks like im gonna be getting some gears.

so now my stuff looks like this

and heres the frame sliders i got from shaeffers.....pretty bad ass looking, but one of the arms going to the frame is not in sync with the rest of them, so i need to whack it down, so all of them will hit the frame correctly

so then i was able to get this damn side of the truck cut off....now how do i finish the edge? i was thinking about finding a belt sander in order to make it straight and smooth...any suggestions?

i took the front end apart, and i noticed that it has a a/c condensor....this one had a/c factory? wow....too bad nuthin else is on there, let alone the condensor be any good. i got a new aluminum radiator from Blue torch. i think what im going to do is mount two brackets between the metal tech fenders im gonna get, instead of using the factory set up. that way, i can move it around, and make it the way i want it to fit

sorry, had to. this is my new poonany catcher....2004 BMW 1150R rockster....fun fun fun!

got the plasma cutter rolling again, so i cut in my tail lights....and cut the fenders out completely. now the fenders are finally done, and i undercoated the inner fenders and bottom side of the floor boards that i made.

ok so i was going to make some shackle hangers in the rear of the truck in order to A) make the wheel base as long as possible and to B) make it the furthest thing back to minimize departure angle as much as possible. so heres the plan. i got some sch. 60 2x4 box tubing ill be making my bumpers and other crap out of, so i was going to make these shackle hangers out of this material as well. heres my wonderfull crappy MSPAINT drawing of what i want to do. do you guys see any problem with hangin the shackles out as far as possible? the leaf springs will be hitting whatever i fall off of in the rear, which seems to be the most desirable

Nice scoot dude...

Looks like yer makin' progress. Hanger looks fiine to me FWIW. I wouldn't worry too much about hittin' the tail coming off ledges with 40 inch tires, hehehe.

The cruiser's looking good. The BMW kicks ass, I've been really wanting one of the 1150 GS's or maybe a new 1200GS or KTM 950 twin, very cool

....i was thinking about making those rear shackle hangers, and decided that if i want to make a rear bumper, i would need to make sure the body wasnt going anywhere. so i picked up some rubber casters when i was at the steel shop for a buck a piece. i found out to my suprise, that when the caster was ground flush (i ground the center off, that would have been riding on the plate you bolt the caster to) they fit awesome with about a 3/4 of an inch lift of the body. the front two A pillar bolts snapped off, leaving me with a problem, i was unable to remove the old mount/crap/broken bolt. so i had to cut the mount open, remove the crap, and reweld it back together again.what a PITA.

when i put a unmolested caster on the front A pillar mounts, they closed the gap that is left, since my front body mounts had an extra 3/4 of an inch more than the rest.....so.... new hardware, new body mounts, and a small body lift for about 20 bucks. sweet! i was going to use hockey pucks, but this turned out much better. i picked up some more so i can replace the trans and motor mounts as well. the caster is real hard rubber with a steel sleeve, so it wont compress a lot, but will make a positive stop for the body.

i finally got a pic of the bedsides, with them done....not too shabby i dont think

the ass end with no bumper.

so heres those shackles i was talking about....they came out pretty good.

i took some 2x4 schd.60 tubing and made it the width of my frame. i capped the ends and cut the frame to accept the tube. it sits directly under the body, so no over hang. the farthest thing back will be the springs and shackles. i feel my shins hurting already. i have a feeling ill be whacking them often

these are only tacked together, i wanna make sure all of it is in the right place before burning it in.

looky looky what Halo'n'chicks had for dinner....mmmm

Wish i had your skilzzzzzzzz Man.
Awesome work.

skillz.....ha! its just a mentality of "damn it i want to make it the way i want it, so its gonna be done"

Great example of Texas Skills

Halo, awesome job! I just bought a 78 40 and it took me about a year to find it. No way I was gonna tackle a project like yours, mine just needs very minor cosmetics. Good on ya man. While I doubt you would need it, you know of any good cruzr shops here in Houston? Just in case my ride needs a check-up I want to know where to go.

Again hell of a job and keep the pics coming!

ME? i dunno any real cruisah places, other than myself....pm me if you need something done... im a BMW master tech and a ASE master tech, so i kinda know my way around cars ;)

ok new stuff to think about

i need some input on where to put my turn signals for the front

i mocked them up in the best places i could find for them to fit correctly

i got the windshield frame done, its ready for a windshield now. the previous owner had the hood come up and smash the windsheild, so it bent the frame to hell. i think i got it straight enough to get a seal to fit in it. now i need to figure out what to do with my wipers....they're all jacked up. right now i figure i can just poke my head out to the side if its raining too hard...not there will be doors or a top or anything...lol

my rear disc brake brackets....i found a PDF file on the net that is a full scale size drawing. so i printed it out, cut it out, and spray painted it. now i need to plasma cut it out....but im too lazy today to do it.

sliders

Where did you get those sliders fabbed up at? Do you have a contact for the fabricator or did you get them made as one offs?

Drew <><
